Merlin Appoints New Chairman

Europe’s number one attraction operator has a new non-executive chairman. Sir John Sunderland, former chief executive and chairman of Cadbury Schweppes and president of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), replaces Peter Phillipson.

How did those companies do under him is the first question to ask...

Although I'm not entirely sure how big a difference this will make to the actual parks, since they are all individually managed as well...

A very successful businessman with a long standing record of immense OCD. Perhaps he's the right man to add the finishing touches to add that gloss and sparkle that Merlin Parks lack? :P
 
He's not really going to do anything with the parks to be honest. His role will be mostly in dealing with investors when Merlin float on the stock market. He'll have very little to do with the actual running of Merlin, more to do with securing the future of the company through investment.
 
What happened to Nick Varney? Or does he work in a different position?

I hope Nick Varney hasn't left as he was one of the reasons John Wardley still worked with Merlin as a consultant
