Mack Tests Spinning Coaster Car on Blue Fire

For myself, that would be all the yes I can muster.

Seriously, we need more Mack in the states, and if they were to get a spinning blue fire clone, Id be ecstatic.

I want this now!!!

So far the best innovation seen at IAAPA!

Innovation?

Would be a very cool experience... once.

However, like the Backward B&M Inverts, I can't help but think this a pure novelty, and hardly a legitimate coaster design that a park would bite on.

Exactly.

Whilst it would be a lot of fun and very interesting to try once or twice, simply going forwards is the way to go long term. Anything else is merely a novelty.

When I'm on spinning coasters, I love the sense of helplessness. I cant see (or feel) where I'm going (sometimes on the Maurer ones I'll be looking over my shoulder), adds an extra dimension to the coaster and it can be a bit of an assault on the senses. I certainly don't think its a novelty.

I can't help but think that a coaster designed to go forwards wouldn't be pleasant to spin round?!

I'm not a big fan of the idea of retrofitting this to existing rides, but I'm assuming Mack are just trialling this on Blue Fire as a proof of concept plan to see whether such a design is feasible on big, inverting coasters. I certainly hope so.

I quite like the concept though, and would be interested to see it applied to a new ride that is specifically created with spinning cars in mind.

Don't really get how it works in regards to the G-forces. Must feel pretty unpleasant in places especially like the heartline roll as the route your body is meant to take is obviously all messed up by the spinning car.

Maybe, but Blue Fire isn't a particularly forceful ride to begin with, so they'll probably get away with it here. It's probably one of the better rides for trialling the idea, and I suspect one of the things they're trying to find out is whether or not some of the elements are uncomfortable if they're taken a certain way.

It's a gimmick, obvs, but quite a fab one. Love how Europa are just like...we probably shouldn't, but if we don't try we'll never know!

I don't think putting them on blue fire is really the point or plan. I suspect it's really just a real world test of the spinning car on a large scale coaster allowing them to get proper data on how it performs before they build a new ride with the cars.

I would imagine we will see a specially built large scale spinner pop up soon. Perhaps Walibi Holland and their new ride.

I don't think anybody is actually assuming that Blue Fire is gonna actually have just one car that spins, if they are, they're a bit deluded.
