Longest queue of all time?

Out of my curiosity, I'm wondering what the longest queue on record for a roller coaster or any ride was. I'm not asking for your personal longest times(though that would be interesting) was, I'm asking the longest documented wait time was. Thanks!

Hmm, I'm not sure of the all time record but in recent memory, I remember Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts at US Orlando had a reported 7.5hour queue on opening (which, incidentally is more or less exactly a year ago today!).

Can you imagine queueing 7.5 hours for a ride? No, me neither. No ride in the world is worth that wait. That's a whole day at work, or the time it takes me to drive from home to Edinburgh, or fly between London and New York. Ridiculous!

Remember though, the ride times on the info boards are an indication of the wait time and might not actually be the ride time.

I recall when Disneyland opened rocket rods with their tomorrowland update of either 98 or 99 the queue was over 8 hours. Now this was also due in part to them opening the queue three hours before the official opening, but the line stretched all the way to Thunder Mountain.

Disney probably holds the record if it's ever been documented. That or TTD in its opening season.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever officially followed queue time length.

Anecdotally, MF and TTD are notorious in carrying 4+ and 6+ hour queues respectively when they opened. I still have funny memory of MF's queue stretching down the main midway, beginning next to Cadillac Cars and Cedar Downs. Even Gemini carried extremely long waits when it opened back in 78.

In turn, when Magnum opened in 1989, Cedar Point saw chronic park over-attendance - drawing 50,000+ guests each day which literally forced the park to turn away guests.

Personally the longest I have ever queued was for the Escape from Gringotts coaster Ian mentioned, I queued 3.5 hours around 3 weeks after it opened. Was it worth it? Course it was, I got a cred. But if I didn't have the cred I'd wait double that easily.

I'm probably joking but yeah, there gets to a stage when waiting that long for anything is just a waste of time and effort.

What? 50,000 guests at CP? I thought that the park maximum capacity would be way lower, like around 30,000 guests. I also read somewhere that on opening season TTD got something like 6-7 hour lines.

I've heard 7-8 hours for TTD opening season. Hell, I waited 4.5 hours for my first ride. I went with a tour bus and of 45 people me and my best friend were the only people to ride it that day.
