Well last week I received a nice e-mail from iTunes saying I won tickets for the opening night of the iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse in Camden, it was Jamie T who was playing. Result.

Myself and my friend Kim thought we may as well go up to London and visit the Ripley's Believe it or not! Odditorium beforehand and look round London for a bit.

The day started well, I got to Southampton Central train station in enough time to catch the 10.55 train to Waterloo. I sat there and waited for Kim to arrive, still nothing, I got a phone call and the bus drove past her, but was no panic, we had travelcards, so we jumped on the 11.30 train

Funny advert at Southampton Central for Irn-Bru.

We arrived at Waterloo around 12.50ish, then got the Bakerloo line to Piccadilly Circus. When we arrived we had lunch at McDonalds then just looked around for a bit.

I seem to be doing an impression of a meerkat

Finally we decided to make our way to Ripley's, which for those who don't know, is located inside the Trocadero, we paid the entrance fee (£21.90 for both of us, using a BOGOF) which was a tad pricey, but oh well.

Outside of the building

Once you enter you have to go to the top floor via the most epic lift ever! It has loads of neon lights, I tried getting a picture but my camera didn't like it, now the random and off stuff beings, where you are first greeted by...

4843_95086374665_543834665_1847528_2692075_n.jpg

A Mini Cooper encrusted with over a million Swarvoski crystals!

and a T-Rex, of course!

Also in that area were many conjoined animals and skeletons of weird beings, and for some reason a lot of opium pipes, my favourite part of that room was the massive rocking chair!

Aww it makes you look like a little child again

or a tiny little pixie in the case of Kim!

As you continue through the exibits there is more and more random objects from across the globe, including a large amount of art made in various forms, some from stamps, some from cigar boxes and there was a picture of Jimi Hendrix made from cow's dung.. nice! There was also this picture of Ripley himself.

But if you look slightly closer...

It's made from bubblegum!

Through more and more random stuff, including the worlds longest nose (I think it was 14 inches long!), a piece of the Berlin wall and a picture of the Queen made from 2p coins! I came across a recognisable face...

The Girner man! Of course Kim had to have a go too!

We made our way through the final parts with the tallest man ever recorded and fattest ever man (Pics are on my Facebook!) we got to an epic mirror maze... it was trippy!

and finally through a vortex tunnel, and the exit.

Next Up: London and the iTunes Festival

Part 2!

After the fun and randomness of Ripley's we took the very short walk to the Trocadero and to have a look around the Funland arcade, I remember coming here when I was only about 7/8 when it was still Segaworld! After playing a few different machines (all of which I got beaten severely at!) we decided to play Mario Kart!

Toad was the choice for Kim, I chose Mario, but no picture of that!

We then ventured out onto the street and walked past the HMV and noticed a large scale memorial to Michael Jackson with fans putting up pictures and messages on the walls and floor.

The time pasted away and it was time to make our way to Camden, via the most packed tube ever! Finally arriving at Chalk Farm and then a 2 minute walk to The Roundhouse, or should I say, the back of it because of a massive queue! After about an hour of queuing, we got to the front where we were given our wristbands and lanyards.

"10 Free Songs from iTunes", well 10 free selected songs

For anybody that doesn't know. the iTunes festival is a bunch of free gigs happening every night throughout July, you enter via facebook or by iTunes, they've got people like Kasabian, Oasis, Bloc Party, La Roux, Graham Coxon and The Saturdays also playing (can't remember anyone else). Tickets are allocated at random, so good luck!

We entered the main stage and stood there, for about another hour  they had a wise idea that they would open the doors at 6, open the main stage at 7, then put on the support at 8. Lots of standing about.

Kim got excited

We were quite close!

First up were the support act, 'Slow Club', well they were ****e, and that's being polite, I could only describe them as a worse Ting Tings, they also got booed, not nice really. It finally arrived the time when Jamie T would make his way to the stage, when he did, the place went mental, everyone started pushing about, I ended up near the back in the end! I couldn't get any pictures for fear of losing my phone! I know Kim got some so I will upload them laters. The gig finished, it was brilliant, and the fact it was free was the icing on the cake.
