Kings Island Trip 6/27/2013 (Banshee Construction!)

So yesterday (Thursday 6/27/2013) my cousin, her husband, my sister and I went to Kings Island. It was by far the longest day I had ever spent at that park and while it is my sister and I's home park, my cousin and her husband don't usually go there. We did get to ride every coaster except Invertigo (the types of people that wait two hours for a boomerang really confuse me) and saw Banshee construction. And the fact that I'm afraid of heights was amusing to everybody.

First ride of the day was Diamondback. It's definitely best ridden in the morning before it gets too hot and is still a little muggy.

Next was The Beast. I had ridden it last year and enjoyed it, but Brittany and Paul hadn't ridden it in a while and they loved it.

After that was Vortex. Bad move on my part for picking that one. I love it despite the fact that it's a little rough, but the number one thing I heard today was that it was too rough, often due to age. It's rough, yes, and age probably has something to do with it, but people don't seem to understand that Arrow just couldn't heartline anything when it was built.

Because I had selected a rough ride that everybody was complaining about, they decided to get revenge on me and make me ride Windseeker. That is one ride I may never ride because I am TERRIFIED of heights. So we compromised. I would ride Drop Tower as a given and then decide if I wanted to ride Windseeker. I hated the idea of getting on Drop Tower given how much I hate heights, but at least the view was worth it. I got a good look at Banshee construction and had a bit of fun, but it's something I'll never ride again. MUCH too scary...

Flight Deck was next on our agenda, mainly for the purposes of seeing the construction site. It's a fun ride, but seeing that wide open expanse of land under construction from the ride was amazing.

After that we grabbed lunch at the Festhaus. My sister and I had Panda Express, Brittany and Paul had LaRosa's. Not too exciting, but we couldn't eat in peace because of one of those theme park shows going on.

After lunch, Lindsay and Brittany rode X-treme Skyflyer and then left to go to Soak City, leaving Paul and I to ride rides. We went to Diamondback and were almost on, but it went down due to mechanical difficulties. So we went to go ride Racer. Paul hadn't gotten either Racer cred, so we rode the blue one. Afterwards, we hit Adventure Express to see construction. It was Adventure Express, just an old Paramount gem rotting in the Cedar Fair era. We then went to Delirium (and got a great view of construction) before meeting up with Brittany and Lindsay.

Our next ride was Eiffel Tower. I hate heights so it was horrible for me, but I did get some good construction pictures. Meanwhile, Brittany kept tormenting the three of us (Lindsay and Paul were scared too) by jumping and sticking her head through the bars. But I got this great shot of Brittany and Paul!

The three of us then did Red Racer and Adventure Express again before going to Flight of Fear. I hadn't ridden Flight of Fear in years, so I was excited to do so. I saw that while Cedar Fair had just left Adventure Express to rot, they had done a decent job of keeping Flight of Fear looking good. We waited in line for an hour but it was air conditioned and we would randomly start cheers in the queue, so it was a good time. And we got a LEGENDARY on-ride photo...

We then went to the park's other Premier; Backlot Stunt Coaster. Brittany loved the theming since she lived in LA for some time and seemed very nostalgic about it. The actual ride was a different story. We get in, whine about the weird Premier shin restraints, and the ride started. Brittany thought that it was jerky and scary with all the sudden movements. But then the best part of the day came. We stop on the MCBR for the show scene and the pyrotechnic effect goes off. Behind me I hear the loudest, most bloodcurdling scream ever. I turn around and it's Brittany. I don't see how she didn't notice the fire shooting out of those tanks all day but her reaction was priceless! She'll tell anybody that it was the scariest ride of the day!

After Stunt Coaster, it started to get dark. We grabbed dinner at the Cincinnati Reds restaurant over by Diamondback and then headed to our final ride of the day; The Beast. The Beast at night was already amazing, but Lindsay can do this strange yet terrifying scream. Did it the WHOLE ride, best Beast ride I've ever had.

Nights of Fire was going to shut the rides down or we would have gotten in line for Diamondback at night. But it's beautiful to look at after dark!

The park is amazing at night.

The twinkly lights on Eiffel Tower were beautiful. We saw it from The Beast's second lift hill.

If you want to see my Banshee construction update, go to the Kings Island 2014 thread in News and Rumors. I think it's on page 3 but I could be wrong. The footage I took of the site should be up later this weekend.
