Job At A Theme Park

Hey so recently I got contacted for an interview to work as a EHS Supervisor at Sesame Place, a small theme park geared at younger kids. Its just a summer job and it mostly deals with keeping the park and rides safe. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else here has worked at an amusement park or theme park, and if so what I might expect.

There are quite a few members on here who have worked at amusement parks around the world.

Each job can vary, so what to expect will differ as well. I guess overall, you need to be able to connect with park guests. Regardless of where you are working, you will sooner or later be in contact with guests - you can single handedly make their day or make them never wish to visit the park again.

At the end of the day it's a customer facing role. Working at Sesame Place you'll have to be good with children. You'll bare the brunt of all parents frustrations, including due to the weather, but it'll be amazing.

Ah so like a Team Leader role... I used to be a Team Leader at Chessington World of Adventures and you know what? Its not as demanding as being an operator / Host, but I wouldn't say its more casual because anything that goes wrong is down to you. Expect complaints on a daily basis that your staff can't handle, a lot of health and safety work, daily inspections, managing your engineers work, staffing and so on... If you get it, you'll love it.

Ah, working at a amusement park.

I work for a semi-well known park... make sure its something you'll like.. or its gonna suck. Where I work I'm fine because I knew what I was getting into, but I've seen a lot of turn over where people find out its not what they wanted or its not all that. Annddd don't think you'll be bringing in the $$$$

It's almost impossible to answer this properly as every park will be so different depending on size, number of staff, number of visitors, types of visitors etc.

Just be prepared for idiotic questions from idiotic people with idiotic kids.

Everything that was said up there.

It all varies, depending on the park, position, etc. I worked at 6FGAm as a ride op and in-park security, and more recently at Wild Waves as a ride op and Skycoaster attendant.

You don't get paid a living wage, the work is seasonal so no bennies at most places, most guests will suck the life out of you, and the supervisors tend to be inexperienced almost to the point of incompetence.

Loved it, completely glad I've done it, and would do it again.

Good luck, and remember: You're working at an amusement park, if you aren't having fun, you're not doing it right.

I worked at Alton Towers in 2007 and 2008, really enjoyable job but you have to be prepared for long hours on certain days and angry customers when they aren't having the ''best day ever''.

I did really enjoy it though.

I was on the entertainment department, so actual contact with people was, depending on the day, quite minimal.

Some woman threw a glass at me once because she thought she'd won £3 on the bingo and hadn't. Was funny watching her and her whole scumbag family EJECTED from the park on the first night of their holiday though.
