Interesting BBC video report on theme parks

peep

CF Legend
It's mainly about a new Robot-themed park being built in Asia but overall it's quite interesting and it's clearly been researched properly (unlike most mass-media pieces that appear).

You can watch it on the BBC site HERE

May not be avialable to peeps outside the UK.

First of all, I officially love Asian park-goers. They responded to questions with actual intelligence and didn't say dumb things. That first girl was pretty much exactly right about the height of Gyro Drop and the other guy talked like he knew what he was speaking to in regards to thrill rides. Second, I find this to be an interesting concept they have of Robot World and trying to sort of replace traditional recognizable characters. No doubt Asia has some great brains and the capital to back it.

I hate BBC.

Not as much as me.

But, to be totally fair, they had some good ideas in that and they actually shown a bit of theme park intelligence. It was good compared to their usual other trash.

I really enjoyed that report... apart from that awful man that Merlin always insist on trawling out every time they've got a half-arsed new ride to plug. As reddude said, you'd never get such well considered and intelligent responses from park visitors in the UK. That presenter guy always seems to do theme park reports, but then I guess he is their travel presenter, so it's not that much of a surprise.

^Yeah. He doesn't seem to enjoy doing the thrill rides though which is a shame because he actually seems to do his research when doing a piece on the industry.

I have a bad feeling in letting robots and technology taking over a theme park. Well on a scale like this.

^That's why it's being "field tested" in Asia.

@Nic: And not only park visitors in the UK (which I actually don't know much about) but also in the US

It was interesting the description that was being given about Robotland. It is very similar to EPCOT's own original founding vision at Disney World.

Robotland just needs to remember to make the park actually entertaining, or else suffer the same fate of Epcot's boring early years.

Not to digress too much off topic, but I personally believe that EPCOT would have been drastically different had Walt Disney been alive to keep creative control. I mean, he actually wanted it to be a city where people would live for extended periods of time. No doubt a bit of an unrealistic idea to fuse theme park and living space but certainly not what it ended up becoming.

I think this park will be very different from EPCOT, firstly it will actually have roller coasters, secondly it I think it'll have a more serious feel to it, than Disney. Yea the beginning vision is similar but, it looks to me as if this will turn into a giant Transformer themed theme park rather than a place of discovery, and science.
