WARNING - TEXT HEAVY -
Right, so as many of you know, I'm a dancer/choreographer in disguise
I disliked my full time job and i've been searching for a new one for quite some time now.
Last year i was in talks with my old college about teaching dance, it all seemed so promising, i made plans, choreographed stuff etc etc. However the teacher i was liaising with wa sa bit ****, therefore my project never materialised.
Come this september, i got in touch with another member of staff from the college about teaching dance, this time someone more appropriate, but whom i was reluctant to approach last year.
Needless to say she was more then happy to help me out.
After a few hiccups with meetings etc, we sat down and drew out a plan up until december. Now, working full time i can only dedicate one day a week to this project [sucks, i know] But I gotta start somewhere!
It's unpaid, but right now it's all about gaining experience and building up my performance CV. [And also giving me something to look forward to at the end of a long **** week at work]
On Monday 17th october, I AUDITIONED the girls. [all the guys dropped out, cuuunnntttttsssss <//3]
Anyway, i made 2 girls cry, one because she didn't want to dance in front of everyone [what?] and the other hurt her back in the toilet.... [what!?]
Anyway, i had 27 girls audition and i could only choose 15..... I only found 13 suitable, and then i added another girl, making it 14.
[Myaudition consisted of me teaching them a segment of dance and they had to repeat it over to me.... in groups]
......................................
The track I've decided to use is:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y2SOFkC3a4[/youtube]
I have big plans for this dance, moreso after finding out it's the last dance in the dance show.
[To give you some idea, i'm hiring industrial type fans, confetti cannons, Co2 guns and glitter.... lots of glitter. haha <3]
It's only a 3 night dance show, but if i'm gonna do something, i'm gonna do it right.
Anyway, on Monday 31st october, I got to teach the girls some of the dance, they all caught on very quickly in the space of an hour and a half [a lot was getting to know each other blaaaah. so they did very well!]
I recorded them dancing [see bottom of this post].
On Monday 7th November i taught them even more of the dance [no video avails] But needless to say i'm EXTREMELY pleased, and we're almost halfway through the dance, 2 sessions down, 3 to go!
Anyway, here's a video of some of the choreography from their first lesson. [the parts there they're walking into position messily is in the dark, so ignore it. And the bit where they're 'holding something', they'll be holding small lights.]
I know it looks messy in places and a few of the dancers mess up, but i'm pleased for like, an hours learning.
Hope to update this some more next week
