You might find THIS list a bit less awful, there's some real dross on that one. I'm going to count BOTH, and edit my post accordingly. 'cos I'm bored.

OK, on your list, I've seen 14. I don't remember 2 of them, but I'm guessing Saw was good and Cloverfield was snorish. Now for IMDB...
Only 12 from IMDB, and Simon Pegg of the dead is only worth half a point anyway. That's a bit disappointing. I hadn't even heard of most below 30 :(

PS: I think 99/250's a pretty respectable score, it becomes a LOT of effort once you're halfway into that list :(

I've only seen 28 on that list. I tend to watch low budget crappy horror films over the well known ones.

28, that's not bad tbh, I only chose them because they're all films I've seen, but I could add like 100 more if I wanted to

Oh Ollie you hipster!

I'm not really into Horror, but you know, Iscidious, Pshyco, One Missed Call, and Final Destination. Not much.

The famous ones... I'd recommend anyone with a strong stomach to watch I Spit On Your Grave or A Serbian Film :)

Alien (1979)
The Shining (1980)
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Dark Water (2002)
Saw (2004)
The Orphanage (2007)
The Others (2001)
Cloverfield (2008)
Rec (2007)

Uh, 9.

Alien <3

LE EDIT!

I'd recommend anyone with a strong stomach to watch I Spit On Your Grave or A Serbian Film

Alternatively, just go on 4chan and find a gore thread! Soup girl <3

Nah, 4chan sucks. All about tumblr.
But really, those films are amazing....
Only nine? But some of those films are so good :p The Ring?! Ju On: The Grudge?! Such good films!

I haven't seen it, but I'll go on about how much I hate the first one for years... Because in all honesty, WAS THE FIRST ONE THAT BAD? When compared to films like A Serbian Film, or Hostel, or I Spit On Your Grave, no, it was like watching Balamory. And something tells me that REALLY, in reality, the second one wont be that bad either.

Human Centipede (controversy aside) is a REALLY boring film. It's not that graphic at all and the worst bit is just people pulling funny faces as they're pretending 'you don't see it' that poo is going in their mouth.

Serbian Film is just worth watching to see if you can handle it. It's not 'good' or 'entertaining' but it's just a giant porn film with loads of blood and horrible things like men raping newborn babies.

Haven't seen I Spit on Your Grave but it's on my list of films to watch.

Let me rephrase then. Any gore thread regardless of chan. Actually, **** it, Guro chan you horrible dirty person :p.

I like A Serbian Film, I think its really clever and original, and hell, its the most controversial film to come out since The Exorcist, I have to say though, it is beautifully done, and no matter how much people may dislike it, I'd like someone to tell me its not a good film for what it is...

32 out of your original 50, but it's missing "In the mouth of madness" so therefore the entire list cannot be trusted and can't have been written by anyone into horror ;)

On IMDB's list (thanks Will), I've seen 24 of the top 50. I may have seen a lot of the older ones (when I was a teenager, I watched a huge number of B&W and 60's or earlier horror), but only a few I can really remember in detail.

I did watch "Them!" over the weekend, that was so fab, but I doubt it's making any lists other than "top 50 films featuring awfully animated giant puppet insects with a dreadful story about the "horrors of nuclonium" or something :)

I keep meaning to watch Nosferatu, but never manage it. It's on Lovefilm's watch now catalogue on the PS3 though, so I'll sneak a look. They also have Invaders from Mars, which is stupidly brilliant ;)

Out of the bottom 10, I've watched 0. That makes me feel pretty good actually :)

^Is them the giant ants? Invasion narrative films are FAB <3

And, I don't get the list? Is it just.........a random list of films? Because a lot of them aren't horror.......

Just to stay on topic, I've seen 35 of that list. Go me.

That's the thing though, it's NOT clever or beautifully done. It's really low budget and rubbish. It's shocking for the sake of shocking. There is no POINT to it. The director says it's a commentary on the 'incestual rape of the state of Serbia'. No. It was an excuse to get some hype for the film before it came out. Look at the director's previous films. He's done NOTHING. At all. It's a very bad film, I thought it was meant to be a comedy when I first watched it, it's so tongue in cheek that it seemed impossible that it couldn't be parody? Turns out it's just a pastiche of actually good 'shock horror' films. Gross.

And I definitely disagree that it's the most controversial film since the Exorcist. Irreversible, anyone? Now that is a shocking film (albeit, not horror) that IS clever and IS beautifully 'done', without having to resort to ridiculously bad 'shock scenes' to gain any kind of audience. The infamous scenes in Irreversible serve a purpose and are integral to the storyline, not to mention genuinely harrowing to watch as opposed to just laughable.

The Human Centipede is boring, but again, it's the idea of the narrative that draws the audience in. It's a film for those with an active imagination, any active horror/gore fan used to loads of blood and goo will definitely be disappointed by this film. What should have been a putrid piece of cinema once again turns silly, the pantomime performance of the 'mad scientist' character being the main culprit. The guy tries to treat the human centipede as a pet for god's sake! It just becomes a laugh for those who enjoy horror, and enjoy pointing out the intertextual references the director makes (ooh, some girls have broken down in the woods in Europe, and it's raining, what could possibly happen next?).

I Spit on Your Grave is not horror. It is a sub-genre spun from horror and thriller called rape-revenge movies. They're all about female empowerment and revenge, but again the westernized versions of these films can't help but stray into the realms of the ridiculous. Take the bath castration scene, for example. Gratuitious amounts of blood, the guys really suffers and his death is reeeeaaaallly prolonged and drawn out. And as he screams 'oh my god, there's so much blood!', we laugh. We don't feel anything for these characters, so we can watch them and not be affected by them.

The French are the best, in my opinion, for making us 'feel' anything through watching this kind of 'shock' cinema. They have perfected the art of uncomfortable yet compelling cinema and I would really urge anyone who is into films like Hostel, I Spit on Your Grave etc, to look into these films if you're bored of laughing and really want to feel something. They are quite remarkable.

I might interest some people into James Rolfe's (guy behind angry video game nerd) monster madness. He really **** loves movies and does this series videos every year during halloween that arent really reviews as such, but breifly talks about them. He goes into some really obscure territory sometimes or geeks out at the universal horror icons. I find them quite interesting dispite the amature vibe about his stuff.

Look up cinemassacre on google or youtube or what evs...

Right here's my opinion on "A Serbian Film".

It's not even remotely entertaining. From the premise, to the acting. It's just **** pathetic and wrong.

It was just one of them films that's "Wow. You've gotta see it to see how they got away with it", or "Don't watch it, it's so disgusting". It's not got a point to it at all. A lot of films like this actually have a pushing force behind them that at the end will come across, this didn't. It included sections that really NEVER needed to be included in the film at all. Mainly the main actor having a semi-erection on, (which I may add was the only part of the film the BBFC wanted taking out. Seriously?!), then there's the "Newborn Porn" part, they could have simply gone over the title of a DVD with a panning motion, but no, instead, they decided to actually SHOW it. Yeah, that's lovely, sick bastard. As I made the point above, most HORRIFYING movies actually have a driving force behind them that they try to portray, wether it being something like politics, the government etc. They try and push their opinion on a major subject, this doesn't, it's not got any actual movement or anything behind it.

In my opinion, the more worrying thing about this film was the fact it was Srdjan Spasojevic's (more like SPAZjevic) first movie, that's worrying in my eyes. Most directors/producers like to add their little view on their product, maybe from a single scene or character, to the full product, that's why I think it's worrying. That guy should be locked up for good, **** prick.

I know its not for everyone, but I like blood, gore, and shocking... And, I'd also like to point out another film I love is Ju On: The Grudge, THE ORIGINAL version, Japanese, and truly creepy.
