Don't know if it has been posted before but I've found a website with a lot of info over the history of Towers and the suronding grounds, if it's of anyway intrest to anyone:

I love history and Alton's is considerably more interesting than most.

Interesting site.

I recently went to Biddulph Grange Garden in Cheshire and was surprised to see a display board go on about how influential Alton Towers has been in shaping attitudes to botany and garden design in the UK - an aspect of it's history that's often forgotten.
