Everyone knows about Great Bear's funky supports. That is because they didn't get permission to build in the river. Did they get it for Skyrush They must have, but why now, and not then?

The thing is that permits for coasters that have supports going "into" the water are very expensive. When Hersheypark built Great Bear, supports weren't needed to go in the water, though with Skyrush, Hersheypark had no choice

Read the original post and the post above yours. It was nothing to do with money, but the fact that they weren't allowed to build in the creek.

I'd be willing to bet that the weird support structure would actually have cost more, since they're so unique, than just building them into the water.

It wasn't an option.
