Hershey Park - 6/30/2012

This was my second trip to Hershey in a bit over a month, and given financial circumstances will probably be my last visit for the season. Thankfully, it was an amazing day.

It was 95 degrees (35 C for the non Americans) and while it was a brutal day, it may have kept away a lot of the locals. With 2 exceptions the wait was under 30 minutes for every ride. This was on a summer Saturday, we were shocked to say the least.

We headed straight for Skyrush which was having technical difficulties. Every few rides a train would stop on the lift, then climb at a slow speed. Followed by an empty test run train at a still slower speed, then it'd get running again. This happened a few times and really slowed things up. It was an hour and a half wait, though when the ride was operating smoothly the line really moved. We finally got on, and gave the 2 noobs (they recently moved from Western PA and this was their first Hershey visit) the wing seats.

I already knew what to expect with Skyrush but that airtime still catches you by surprise.

We quickly hit the Sooper Dooper Looper which was a fun lil ride as always. The loop is forceful but that's about it.

We decided to leave the area and do the park in reverse in a hope to avoid crowds.
Since the noobs wanted to hit every coaster we walked on (literally) to the Trailblazer and even as a joke it wasn't worth it. Thank goodness the wait was 0 seconds.

Onto Storm Runner which we did 4 times in a row. The wait was under 10 minutes each time. Such a short, but intense ride. One of the newbies declared this his favorite ride there. 4 is absolutely the limit as our shoulders couldn't take anymore.

The 2 of us braced for the brain trauma known as Sidewinder, (the beloved Vekoma boomerang) but the new restraints made it surprisingly smooth, very much so. It's actually enjoyable now! 10 minute wait.

Then to the Wildcat. I grabbed back row as I always do with woodies, and it's such a fun ride. The perfect amount of roughness. 5 minute wait.

We rode Lightning Racer twice, once for each side of course, and I won both races. Still a fun ride and we were split 2-2 about preference: The rougher Wildcat or Smoother LR. Wait was under 10 minutes, though we had to get off line temporarily when they shut down the ride due to an injury. Looked like a girl broke her nose or something.

We hit Fahrenheit which had an hourish wait. I personally wouldn't bother with that time but we had to do it. A fun ride but just too mild IMO and not worth such a wait.

Looping back we saw the crowds heading the opposite direction, and sure enough we faced virtually no waits for the Log Flume, Great Bear, and Comet.
The flume got us wetter than I remember, and even gave a pop of airtime!
Great Bear was awesome as always. The sub 10 minute wait made the shortness negligible and we went twice in a row. The other newbie decided this his favorite coaster there.
Comet was actually less fun then I remember. Still good, but not as quick nor as much airtime as I used to think...

We rode Skyrush twice more. Now it was running smooth and had 15-20 minute waits. I got a wing seat back row, and the ride seemed the same, sans the drop. I never felt ejector airtime going over a crest, and then into that drop...was one of the rare times I had to let out top of the lung screams.
I had no problem with the ride originally, but I did notice a difference with the restraints, there was do discomfort for me at all...so I'm sure those who did have problems will find it much improved.

It was a great trip topped by the surprisingly short lines. We also squeezed the pirate ship, bumper cars and The Claw (spinning swing ride) in there to boot.

I have no doubt now Skyrush is my favorite coaster at Hershey. The online POVs just don't do the ride justice. Most extreme airtime I've ever felt and those flicks feel like you're being thrown from the car.

Sorry for the lack of pics but I was off my game today since we in a hurry/hot as hell. A couple I did like though:
