Help keep Playland Park from downsizing

Here is an online petition to help save Rye Playland Amusement Park which is located just north of New York City. Even if you don't like the park I urge you to fill out the petition anyway.
http://www.change.org/petitions/save-playland-amusement-park

This petition asks that the Westchester County, NY Executive and Board of Legislators select a future operator of Playland Amusement Park in Rye, New York which will maintain Playland as a traditional and historic amusement park without reducing the footprint of the amusement area.
Signatories of this petition want Playland to be operated by an experienced amusement park operator which will maintain and improve the existing amusement park including all historic buildings and structures, without shrinking the footprint of the amusement area or decreasing the number of rides.
Signatories support plans of Standard Amusements and/or Central Amusements International (Zamperla). Both companies would improve the amusement park and invest in additional capital improvements, while respecting the property’s history and atmosphere.
Signatories are opposed to the proposal of Sustainable Playland Incorporated (SPI). SPI plans to remove 30% of the rides and reduce the footprint size of amusement park by over 50%. Decreasing the size of the amusement park and removing rides will drastically reduce the number of paying guests of Playland, which could result in foreclosure and bring about the end of the amusement park that has been in operation since 1928.

They wouldn't let me on their crappy wild mouse because I was "too tall", so f**k 'em!

Ben said:
I snuck on although we're the same height <3

I was actually sitting in the car, ready to go, when some bitch decided to unceremoniously eject me and check my height.

So yeah, it can burn to the ground for all I care.

There was nothing else there of any note anyway; the Volare was obviously putrid and the woodie was mediocre at best.

That's exactly the response I expected from some people, which is why I still asked that they go ahead & sign the petition. If one of the two companies took over running the park & replacing the rides with new ones, issues like that could be eliminated.
On the other hand why try to do anything to improve parks we dislike? Let's just burn them to the ground.

^But do you not see the problem in telling people to sign a petition for something they don't actually care about?

If someone approached me in the street with a petition, which has happened on numerous occasions, and told me to sign it regardless of any personal views on the matter, would I sign it?

The inherent problem with online petitions is that it's so easy to "sign" something, gaining hundreds of thousands of "signatures" from people who either don't know what it's about, or don't care, that they become more and more irrelevant.

An actual, real petition from local people - which involves more work but I assume is going ahead - will have much more of an impact than "signatures" from people in Buttf**k Nowhere, UK, who have no personal experience or interest in the park.

It's great that local people are doing something to save the park, and it's great that you've brought it to more people's attention, but telling people to "sign it anyway" defeats the entire purpose of a petition.

I have to disagree. This petition is as relevant for park enthusiasts as it is for local guests. Both you & Ben pointed out issues with the park that would need to be changed before you would ever consider visiting the park again. Plus there are plenty of enthusiasts who have yet to have the opportunity to visit the park & would hopefully want to do so as a thriving & well-run park rather than the downsized proposal that this petition is against. Therefore it is important that everyone of us as roller coaster & theme/amusement park enthusiasts sign the petition in hopes of influencing the council to keep it as a true amusement park without any downsizing. The fact that most of us are not local can only show the council that the park is of great interest to people everywhere & not just nearby communities.
I do agree that people should know about what is going on, which is why I listed links to full information for each proposal so that those who are truly interested can decide if what the petition is for is something they agree with.

Signed it because I went there in 2011 and I don't like seeing parks downsize in the scale that is being proposed, even if its dumpy.

I know a few of you signed the petition and I thought I would pass this along.
Congratulations are in order on behalf of everyone who signed the petition and got involved to save Playland Amusement park. More than 2500 people who love Playland and want to see it remain an amusement park have signed so far. This success gave our group the credibility to be heard and has already forced the County to replace the original operator in Sustainable Playland’s proposal with Central Amusements.
Thanks again for your help in getting this accomplished!
