Has anyone ridden Formula Rossa or Dodompa?

The reason why I included Dodompa is because it is the fastest acceleration, actually I think not just coasters, but in the world. 0-107 MPH in 1.8 seconds. Formula Rossa is the fastest roller coaster in the world, 149 MPH in 3.8 seconds. It eventually reaches 150 MPH, but that's not on the launch. These are probally the most heart pounding roller coasters in the world. On Formula Rossa you acctually need goggles so bugs don't get in your eyes. :D But has anybody ridden them? I'm pretty sure if Gavin's reading this he'll say yes (for Dodompa), but probally no one else. I havn't heard of a single person on CoasterForce even really TALK about it, so has anybody even ridden it? Formula Rossa also looks like it includes great airtime at the end.

For coasters, yes, but not for every type of passenger-carrying vehicle. Off the top of my head, I know that top fuel dragsters make it to roughly 100 mph in under a second, and without looking it up I'd be willing to bet that a jet fighter being launched off an aircraft carrier accelerates at a similar rate.

Unless we're talking about the world's first frictionless coaster, where else would it be? Not to mention the fact that it hits the brakes on the hill directly following the launch, dropping down to a speed of about 65 MPH.

Yeah, the top speed of Formula Rossa is definitely during the launch as it does slow down significantly on/before the first hill. Haven't ridden either but would love to if given the chance.

Yup. Aircraft carrier launch tops coasters.

0 to 165-175 MPH in under two seconds, depending on the aircraft type and load out. Hornets have about 3.3Gs during launch. I forget the catapult length, sorry.

There was a trip report from Ferrari World last year. I think that the review of Formula Rossa was "OMFGTHATLAUNCH, oh, it's **** ".

I do like launches, but I don't love them - for me it's the entire experience. One good bit of coaster that lasts for a second or two just isn't enough I'm afraid...

I meant more the bad thing... Surely there isn't such a thing.

Then again, to most people, mud is mud... To an enthusiast it's an excitingly poised moment that means great things to come... To an artist a functional pot or plate, or even a wonderful bust or model... To two women in bikinis; well, we've got enough examples now I think to say "a bad workman always blames his tools" ;)

I've been on Dodonpa. Launch is like getting hit by a truck, the big turn was bouncy, and the hill has the most painful moment or airtime I've ever experienced. But I came off laughing.

Yes (for Dodonpa).

Pretty much what Tom said really. The launch is terrifying, but amazing. It's not just the force of it, but you get the whole countdown which builds up the tension. Plus it launches from inside a tunnel and into the light which adds something else as well.

The huge turnaround is a juddery, yeah. I've seen people calling it rough, which is taking it too far because it's not. It's only got lapbars anyway, so it's not like you're headbanging or anything. Tom's description of "bouncy" probably sums it up pretty well.

The top hat. Jesus Christ the top hat. If you're sitting towards the back of the train, it's not too bad, but at the front it's really, really painful on your thighs because you're ejected upwards so strongly. It's a brilliant airtime moment though, for all that.

So yeah, it's amazing, but it's a ride once/twice per visit kind of coaster. Not that you'd have much choice since it gets long queues even on quiet days thanks to the awful capacity.
