Guilty Pleasure Coasters

We all have a guilty pleasure coaster. I have a few, but I'd say the most obvious for me is probably The Ultimate at Lightwater, because it's a bit of a marmite credit, often panned for being rough and drawn out. Still, I've always loved it deep down for it's speed and ferocity.

So which coasters do you have a secret soft spot for and why?

Adventure Express, Leap the Dips (if that counts), space mountain at WDW and Bobsleds are the one's the spring to mind immediately.

Viper, Demon, and Whizzer all at SFGAm for me.

Viper is quite rough, and slips under the radar for most. It's really nothing special aside from it was in-house. It looks like a coaster that could pass off as a +1, but god damn does it give airtime. That double down is godly. <3

Demon and Whizzer are the 2 classic coasters at the park from 1976. Both are some of the best of their kind. Whizzer is a great family coaster that gets quite close to the ground and gives some decent forces. Demon is fairly smooth for an Arrow looper, the tunnel and rockwork is nice, and the hidden ejector in the back row is utterly bonkers. They both place higher than Superman: Waste of Steel imo. Not to mention that they were both large parts of my childhood.

Maybe Space Mountain OL, but I'm not as connected to it as other coasters. I do think that the entire experience it gives is one of the most immersive and impressive experiences it's time could deliver.

T3 at Kentucky Kingdom is probably at the top of my guilty pleasure list. It's still rough, but the new trains eliminate the headbanging element. I also don't hate SLCs as much as most people seem to.

All of the coasters I've so far ridden from Gerstlauer. Karacho and Van Helsing probably can't be classed as guilty pleasure, since a lot of people seem to like them, but likes of Saw or Smiler can be. So, those.
I also really liked Familieachtbaan in BillyBird, simply because it is located in such a random location. BillyBird is more of a picnic park with a couple of attractions, rather than an actual amusement park. Plus the coaster itself was also really enjoyable, due to smooth tracking, a bit of airtime and only a seatbelt to protect you. I know most people haven't ridden that one yet, but Thom has often questioned my opinion, since I've put it so high in my ranking. Why, oh why more small parks don't buy these little abc coasters?

The Boss at SFSTL is my guilty pleasure coaster. God it's rough as absolute ****, but something about it I enjoy enough to make it one of my favorite's in the park. To me it gives a great sensation of speed and feels very out of control.

The Smiler.

It seems to get a lot of hate on these forums but I think it's a really good ride and is worthy of at least an 8/10. I know it's basically inversion after inversion but it's basically the only coaster that makes me feel even the slightest bit disorientated. I like how long it is in comparison to Alton's other coasters and I think the theme is really cool and unique. You've also got to love that pop of airtime on the airtime hill. I also don't think it's anywhere near as rough as many people say it is, although I do admit I seem to have a higher pain threshold than other coasters nerds as I didn't find notorious rides like Mean Streak and Anaconda that bad.

I'd probably say it's the second best coaster in the UK behind Nemesis (I will point out though that I haven't been on Megafobia or the Ultimate though).

I don't have any. I don't know why I should feel guilty about my favourite coasters.

It's not about favourite coasters. Just coasters you enjoy that are usually hated or overlooked.

Diablo at PortAventura. It's so pointless yet I love it for a joyride, especially as it gets darker on a summer night.

When I was living in Florida, I would just jump on Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom after I was done with my shift. It was a great way to end the day and put all stress away.

Good topic Sandman!

Air has a pretty poor reputation but I really enjoy it!

Swarm also gets abused for being too short and whilst I agree i still think its a great ride.

Infusion - a typical SLC that beats you up, but it's not bad if you sit in the right seat, and it looks amazing over the water. Easily my favourite looking SLC.

Rage (Southend) - again, a typical Euro Fighter, but it was my first (and so far only) euro fighter and a pretty decent big coaster for a family park.

Any large Zierer Tivoli model. They are common junior coasters, but when you put them in a well landscaped setting I think they are lovely coasters that I would be happy to marathon all day long.

Chinese Jungle Mouse coasters. Not because they're any good - though they're not bad at all for something so small - but because of the ludicrous number of +1s they allow for. I'm always quite delighted to see one. It's fab to "discover" them as well; they're f**king everywhere.

Fire in the Hole <3 I don't know why, but I really think it's fab and I'm always excited to ride it.

Flight of Fear, Beast during the day, Mr. Freeze, and Lost Coaster are all good as well, for not being widely praised in the coaster world.

Space Mountain Alpha (MK)- it is actually one of my favorite coasters. It may just be a wild mouse in a themed box, but I have more fun on it than practically any other coaster.

Disaster Transport- I love it so much. Just so badly themed but I enjoy it greatly.

The Boss- it may be rough but I just enjoy being beat up going really fast.

Matterhorn- it's awful. So rough, but I just love riding it at night. One of DL's best experiences. The environment lets me look past being beat up.

Shockwave @ KD- despite being made by the loathed TOGO; I enjoyed this one. I can see its flaws but can also look past them.

Ninja @ SFOG- an infamous choice for one of the worst coasters. I really enjoyed it though. I find it one of the better Arrow/Vekoma type loopers. Unique layout and environment help it out a lot.

Thirteen. Sure it's all gimmicky and tame but I enjoy it every time.

Seeing a lot of mentions of Saw in this topic... See, everyone loves it really ;)
