Favourite Vekoma?

After doing that top ten but not B&M or Intamin list, I was shocked at how few Vekomas popped up, considering how many of them there actually are in this world. Are Vekoma really that bad? The answer is probably yes but I'd like this topic to prove that there are actually SOME good Vekomas out there, if not a lot.

So, I'll kick this off, my favourite Vekoma is Goliath, the GIB at Six Flags New England. Rumbly, yes, but in a kind of weirdly smooth way, the layout promises to batter you but you actually come off mostly in tact and the two drops are insane <3

It's between Temple of the Night Hawk and Millennium Coaster for me. Both perhaps because they're surprisingly smooth and very pleasant ride experiences.

Since most of Vekomas are Roller Skaters, Boomerangs, Mine Trains, etc. there is no wonder there aren't many on peoples tops. With other words most of their coasters aren't really my top material. The exceptions are the rides they made for Disney, GIBs and ( maybe) Flying Dutchmans (some people could say SLCs, but I don't like them)

To sum up my favourite Vekomas are Deja Vu, which once stood in SFMM, Space Mountain 2 and Rock'n'rollercoaster, which are both in DLP resort

I have come across 1 or 2 pleasant surprise vekomas - Wirbelwind (fort fun) and Big Loop (Heide Park) - both of whic I expected an ear bashing off. but were pretty good.

Then there's a couple of plain family fun vekoma's - Colorado express and Rock n Roller coaster.

Then there's Jubilee odyssee, which I found fine

Then there's intense, but bizarrely quite good - batwing

My fave is Colorado...

Yeah, they really are that bad.
Even though newer ones seem to have ironed out most of their roughness issues those are few, and like Arrow...a lot of Vekoma's seem to have boring/slow/awkward layouts. Though not nearly as bad as Arrow!

Also I've not been on many...such as Millennium, Jubilee Odyssey, the booster bikes.

Anywho, my favorite was probably X Flight.

It was smooth and flying coasters are always fun. Wasn't the most intense ride, but was enjoyable and I recall the turnover and the loop being pretty gnarly.

Expedition Everest is more of a family ride but it was surprisingly really fun. Great scenery and really unique. How many rides go backwards, then forwards through different tracks!

RnR Coaster was also fun and smooth.

I like the Rollerskaters and Boomerangs. I love Jubilee Odyssey, and I like the standard SLC layout, but the Shenlin clones are pretty dull.

I have no doubt that the InVerted Boomerangs are on the same 'good' wave lenght as the standard Boomerangs, and everyone seems to be in agreement that GIB's are amazing, so I'll take everyones word for it.

Millennium Coaster is ok, as a 'childs first looper' type of coaster, and Goudrix would be FAB if it wasn't so rough, so new trains on that could make all the difference.

I also really like BTM at DLP, as well as Space Mountain and Rock 'n' Rollercoaster.

Oh, and Velocity is also REALLY good too, imo.

And, lets face it, Gravity Max will put the **** up anyone!

I've actually started to forget about Vekoma, so it's quite a tough decision. But I think I'd go with Space Mountain Mission 2, under-rated coaster in my opinion.

Despite it's horrible lift hill (being baked in the sun), and the awful restraint system I think Batwing is my favorite by long shot. Sure I haven't been on many Vekomas, but as far as the ones I've ridden this was the smoothest and certainly the most unique.

Gravity Max - I'm aware that this will come across as one of those "I'll say it's the best because nobody's been on it" posts, but I don't care. Y'all can suck it; it was FAB.

Others of note:

The GIBs at Magic Mountain and Parque Warner
Space Mountain, Hong Kong Disney
Rock n Rollercoaster, Paris
Black Hole Express, Kumdori Land
Colorado Adventure, Phatasialand

Yay - a favorite topic that wasn't started by CookieCoasters. :P

I imagine that I have yet to ride their best which would likely be Jubilee Odyssey at Fantasy Island or Battlestar Galactica at Universal Studios Singapore. Can't wait to give both a try - especially Odyssey.
I'm also looking forward to riding the Wild Mouse at Idlewild this weekend.

Of those that I've ridden it would have to be Déjà Vu, which seemed to run better at Magic Mountain than it does at SFNE. I also like Nighthawk at Carowinds & Fly the Great Nor'Easter at Morey's Piers (yes, SLCs can be fun with the proper trains).
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kumali at Flamingo Land, which was pain free & quite different for a SLC.
Their worst has to be El Condor at Walibi Holland. If it isn't, then I don't want to ride whatever is. :P

^Space Mountain Hong Kong?

Different, yes, but it's a s**te ride. The regular SLCs have got a much better layout. Yeah, some of them are horrible to ride, but when you get the smoother ones, they're miles better than the Kumali clones.

I Completely agree, it was just full of 'meh' really. Very forceless and quite tame.

The Millennium Coaster is probably more intense than Kumali...

Nighthawk/BORG Assimilator, Carowinds, not only does it have some really cool elements it used to have a really awesome color scheme and name.

At some point in the last 12 months, I've definitely thought to myself 'THAT was my new favourite Vekoma'. Alas, I've NO recollection of what I'd just been on. I'm going to guess it was Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, all awkard corkscrews aside.

If not, Millennium Coaster definitely gets an honorable mention. I'll double-check if I get very bored, because I'm sure I've forgotten something.

Oh, and does somebody just want to make a bloody 'What's Your Favourite Go Gator' topic already, the rate we're going it's only a matter of time, so we may as well get it over with...
