Expedition Everst, The Yeti

It was designed to move it's whole body forward and 'grab' you. Look at 4:49 for the yeti part.

The Yeti when it first opened. Grabbed at you, however after a few months, because the yeti was connected to the support rails, it doesn't work. It is beyond repair, and the only way to fix it is to knock down the mountain and re-build it, which Disney will NEVER do as they have already cut so many corners in building and other things at WDW.

P.S. I'll try to find the link

If people post like that they should get their facts right. The yeti worked until 2006 until they found problems.

Only over the past year have they turned it off.

But yes they are right that it won't be fixed as they have to remove half the ride to do it.

I would live to know where disney have cut corners though?

This is the problem with the Yeti.

"The problem is not the Yeti himself. The concrete foundation on which he is mounted has become irrevocably cracked. A few more lunges and he will topple onto an oncoming train for real! Lawsuit city!"

I've just had a browse on Youtube, and looked at a few videos that apparently show the Yeti working, yet all I can see is what looks like a reflection on a screen?!

Um, sorry, but that's where you're wrong actually. The yeti was NOT connected to the support rails. It actually has it's own support system. Expedition Everest is well known for having 3 support systems; Building, Coaster and yeti. That's true fact as published by Disney themselves and appears in numerous sources of this ride, maybe not online, but printed versions. If you get the "Disney Mountains: Imagineering at it's Peak" book, it states it and shows an image in there.

Also, seen as someone has brought up the AGE-OLD Yeti bollocks. This has to be posted;

^ I <3 you Mark! You took the words right out my mouth and as Marc also pointed out, the three major structures are all seperate. There is actually a documentary on YouTube about it. I will try to find it for you.

I love that video too. I remember when I first saw it. I've been a member on the DiscoYeti website for some time now. http://www.discoyeti.com/ Basically a blog written from the perspective of the Yeti. I sooooo have to have one of those TShirts.

I have been following the whole thing for some time but at the moment, the Yeti Status is the same as it has been since not long after my visit in 2007... A strobe light flashing on it to make it APPEAR as though it is moving. Hence the 'DiscoYeti' nickname.

EDIT: Here is Part 1 of a 5-Part Documentary, it actually starts talking about the different structures towards the end of Part 1.

Where on earth did you even hear that? It's so, so wrong =/

I rode when the yeti worked, and yes it was impressive, but I always felt like you whizzed straight past it and couldn't really appreciate what a marvel of technology the thing is (was).

Such a shame the problem won't be fixed, I really hope they find a way one day, it's just not the same now <//3

Yeah, I thought that back when we rode it Jordan, it wasn't until our second ride where I was 'properly' looking out for it did I even notice just how much it moved.

Mark, I LOVE that Documentary. I have it on DVD, I've not got a clue how, I love it!

I just love the "-Angry Disney Forum Goer." comment, it made me LOL. That much of a Disney Enthusiast, you don't know a crucial detail about one of Disney's most iconic and groundbreaking rides  .
