Expansion for Walibi Belgium!

A couple of years ago, it was rumored that Walibi Belgium was looking out to expand. This news was confirmed by the park about two years ago. However, the park said this was just a start of this project and the actual expansion could take years.

But the expansion seems to come pretty close since the park has asked the aprovement from the city of Waver to expand from 61 ha to about 68 ha. This means an expansion of 7 ha...and I can't tell you that is alot of ground for the park.

The expansion is about some 'green zones' in the park. It is officialy known that Walibi Belgium still has many laps of ground they could use, if the city of Wavre would agree. First of all, there is the former location of Vertigo, which actually goes from behind Vampire till Calamity Mine, passing about 3 themed zones: Paris 1900, Italy and Lucky Luke City. Next, the park still has some room behind the Dile, the river that passes Walibi Belgium and Vampire, next to the parkinglot of the park. And at least, they still have one big footballfield and two tennisfields, called Espace de Moulin, located behind the Go-Karts and Dalton Terror, where the Halloween walk-through 'Twilight Zone' was located.

The expansion will also include waterzones in the park, which is the giant lake at the centre of the park. This lake is some official protected point of nature, but the park always said that they would like to see that rule scrapped. The original plan was to built Vertigo on and around the lake, but that was cancelled because they had no permission to built on the lake.

However, since yesterday Walloon minister André Antoine has approved the plans from Walibi Belgium to expand their park with 7 ha.

I hope to find out soon what will happen in the near future of the park. New ride, anyone?

Balloon Minister? What an awesome... oh, never mind.

I'm still hoping for a Mega-Lite, I think one would fir the park nicely. However, they need a sitdown coaster with inversions now, so... can we hope?

Whatever they put there, I hope it will be good.

Don't worry. It will be good. After the fail with Vertigo the park management will think twice before buying a coaster let alone a prototype.

My bet is either a good old B&M or an Intamin, I agree a Mega lite would suit the park but Walibi Belgium has Goliath "next door" (Belgium and Holland are not that far).

I think you mean Walibi World has Goliath ;)

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't go to Vekoma actually. They have a lot, have they had many problems with them? IF they were to get a new coaster, why not one of the new Vekomas?

Rumors for an expansion of Walibi Belgium are already there since the park was bought by Six Flags. I know the park still has alot of room to place a BIG coaster. Such as 'Espace de Moulin', which is actually pretty huge. It is located at the right side of the park, far away from the always complaining neighbours.

First of all, they still have the former location from Vertigo, with extra space starting behind Vampire, passing Loup-Garou reaching untill Calamity Mine, as you can see at the picture below:

Next, Espace de Moulin, which you can see at the other picture below. It starts behind Dalton Terror and features everything behind it, including the room on and around the three little houses you can see. It goes even further than you can see on the pictures, because you can see a part of the two tennisfields on the left bottom on the picture. During the Intamin Hyper rumors, some fans have been measuring this space and it could fit for an Intamin Hyper...
