Efteling | Danse Macabre | Intamin Dynamic Motion Stage | 2024

The ride gondolas are in the process of being hoisted into the building. Looking likely that testing commences as summer approaches.

According to a park spokesperson, the cost for Danse Macabre has ballooned to over €35 million, owing to inflation and increased cost of materials but also an expansion in size of the project from when it was originally budgeted at €25 million.

Earlier this week Efteling put out a new teaser showing the ride gondolas in motion as well as multiple animatronics; a funky-looking black cat, a sinister pianist, and the surprisingly fluid "Joseph Charlatan", the ghost conductor hosting the ride:

More photos showing off the ride/area's intricate details have also appeared:

The park also detailed how the attraction will accommodate disabled guests: The queue is free of both steps and barriers, and once in the main waiting area disabled guests will get to choose whether to transfer into one of the gondolas or enter a "miniature" version of the attraction that would not require a transfer, which will be equipped with full screens, scent, and lighting effects to replicate the experience of the main attraction.

The entire ride is also equipped with LED lighting, and excess heat will be used to heat up other attractions in the park as a way to conserve energy.

The park has also launched a competition for guests to get to ride Danse Macabre on October 30th, a day earlier than its official opening on Halloween Eve. Contestants have until October 14th to register on the main website, and will be notified no later than October 21st.

Looopings has obtained a leaked recording of what the interior of Danse Macabre looks like with the service lights on. Spoilers below:

^ I love how they zoomed in on the nipple of the statue, very important detail.

I'm just astonished by the size of the structure and the ride system, frankly.

Genuinely feel a bit sorry for Efteling, people keep leaking parts of this ride all the time!

Makes John Burton tweeting about the Nemesis drone footage even goofier, Efteling create this beautiful ride (which will probably be a masterpiece) meanwhile he gets mad when somebody leaks the new shipping containers he's ordered for Nemesis.

Who John "Muh Art" Burton?

Ooooh link me to this tweet!
He's an artist! His work includes green shipping containers, black shipping containers, dark spaces with nothing in them and only theming upto 5 feet off the ground to name a few.
I'm sure if he actually experienced some of these world class rides at efteling, europa etc he'd still say his work is better pha

To be fair, Nemesis Reborn is pretty gorgeous if we ignore bog-standard Merlin elements like the shipping container and the unfinished nature of the landscaping (haven't been back since opening day so I don't know how it looks now). The updated parts of the station exterior are easily the best in the country as far as theming goes, given the attention to detail of the Nemesis eye animatronic, the new tentacles etc....

Danse Macabre will no doubt trump anything we have in the UK however, it's not uncommon for parks like Efteling to build new attractions that can compete with the likes of Disney, whereas Merlin are simply not at that level, which is probably okay because their parks only cater to regional markets.

Nemesis is pretty because it was a John Wardley product. Reborn is just a repaint of that existing structure with a helicopter and a shipping container thrown in.

And yes Danse looks beatiful.

It's a bit more substantial than simply a repaint if you consider the addition of multiple custom made theming elements like the new tentacles, the animatronic eye, thematic lighting and smoke effects, updated station interior, the new Phalanx base theming around Forbidden Valley and the Nemesis Reborn queue line etc.

MMM's efforts to reimagine Nemesis were enough for Alton Towers to win a very rare Golden Ticket Award. It still elevates the ride experience we all know and love. Anywhoo, of course Danse Macabre appears to look leagues better than anything we have in the UK full stop. I wouldn't expect anything less from a truly world class theme park like De Efteling.
