Drop Tower Manual Release?

Knt54

Roller Poster
I went on a drop tower ride for the first time the other day (Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags St. Louis) and while waiting at the top I had a horrible thought. What if the cars won't release? Is there some sort of manual release to bring the whole thing back down? I did a bunch of googling but couldn't find any info on this.

The answer is "yes".

Ok, so I can't prove this with photos and clever talk, but it's very unlikely that such a fail-safe would be excluded from it's design.

To clarify Ian's yes, I scanned a copy of SFKK's Superman Tower of Power operation maul and uploaded it to the web. This section has to do with the evacuation procedure.
I believe #2 deals with your scenario.

Thanks so much! Don't think I'll ever get on it again though because it seems like that might take a while and I am extremely scared of heights.

All rides have some emergency backup plan thingy.

For example, my friend felt that he was going to puke on the Xtreme Skyflyer ride, so they lowered him back down. I didn't know they could do that until today :P

But watching someone release a Drop Tower ride would be quite fascinating from the ground...and probably terrifying from the riders' perspective.
