ORLANDO --
Universal Orlando Resort has raised its general parking fee to $17, just days after Walt Disney World did the same over the weekend.

The new parking price, up from $16, was posted on Universal Orlando's website Thursday.

"Preferred" parking, along with parking for RVs and buses, was listed as $22.

Parking for Florida residents is FREE after 6 p.m., with proof of residency. Restrictions apply, such as special events, Universal said.

For out-of-state guests, parking after 6 p.m. costs $5, and is free after 10 p.m.

The parking increase at Universal comes less than a week after Disney World raised its general parking price from $15 to $17.

Parking at SeaWorld Orlando remains $15 as of Thursday.

This is why staying on resort at Disney works out well, free parking but Universal still charge people staying on resort.

It's so much to park a car it's stupid and it's the reason why we don't go to universal area for the evening.

If you're staying on property why not use the shuttle buses Disney provides?

One of the trips we stayed at a hotel across from the downtown Disney area. Can't remember the hotel offhand but we were able to use the downtown Disney shuttle buses to get to the parks and save a few bucks by staying off property.

Tried the buses never again. I prefer to arrive and leave when I want not when the bus wants me to. Plus they are busy and full of screaming kids.

Plus as people are now finding out you can not get busses direct to all the parks, or get you there early enough to arrive when the park opens.

As far as I know the Downtown Disney shuttles do NOT go directly to the parks. You would have to go to one of the resorts, then the park. Additionally, with all of the construction going on there right now unless you getnthere before 930 parking is almost non existent.

Not sure if it's true or not but Disney will start charging to park at down town Disney. It's a story doing the rounds but as I said not sure if it's true.

^^ Yes the buses at Downtown Disney only go to the resorts, not the parks - but the hotels in the immediate vicinity of DD are official Disney "partner hotels" and so have their own Disney transport buses to the parks (there was two 'loops' last time I was there, each serving about 5 hotels and 2 parks)

Yeah when I stayed near dd the bus went to a few hotels then to the parks. But we had to go to Epcot then the animal kingdom and it took ages.

Then we had to wait at the animal kingdom for a bus back as there were only a few a day.

That was the last time I used the bus.

Interesting. Last time I was at Disney was... 2009 or 2010 but the buses were prompt enough that it wasn't a hassle. Not sure if it's changed since then.

This was about 10 years ago, then we tried the bus again 3 years ago to dd from our hotel and had to stand.

Seeing we get free parking as we stay on resort driving is just a no brainer.

I worked it out and we normally spend 10 days at Disney is it's just cheaper to stay on resort.

Even people who went a few weeks back said the busses were a pain.

You had to stand? Oh the horror!

Maybe my tolerance for this type of thing is higher since I spent 6 years using public transit in Chicago? I dunno, just seemed like the Disney buses weren't an inconvenience. I certainly wouldn't pay to rent a car for a week to avoid them.

As I've said I've tried the busses and found them a pain. Not getting there for opening and having to leave early was not for us. Also having to wait for the second bus as the first one was full was a waste of time as well.

We normally go for two week so spending the £200 for a car it's worth it.

Makes it easier to and from the airport, to go shopping, to get to Busch and other parks as well as Disney.

I stayed in Saratoga Springs last July and I found the Disney transport system to be outstanding. Plenty of buses around, never found them too busy and we never had to wait very long for a bus to were we wanted go go once during our two week stay. Not sure if it has improved or I may have just been lucky.
