Cyclone at Astroland Vs Hurricane Sandy

Mega Poster
Let's hope this coaster & the Wonder Wheel can make it through the major battering of "Sandy". Any pic's would be greatful.

Speaking of Cyclone, how can this thing go 60 m.p.h?

Any object falling from 85' will only travel 22.54 m/s (50.42 mph) at MAX without any friction or air-resistance.

I'm glad Cyclone survived because I'm suppose to go next year. After seeing the damage in Jersey it's good to know that Coney Island is still in one piece.

Oh, thank God it's ok! The billions of dollars in damage, the destroyed homes and all those dead people suddenly become insignificant with the news that a pile of wood survived.

^ I mean, you're not wrong, but nobody here said that the Cyclone was more important than any of that. This is a coaster forum after all, so a topic like this isn't unwarranted.

Found this pic of how Funland looks:

Not so good news for this pier & coaster on the Jersey Shoreline:

I agree with that statement 100%.

It just irritates me that Astroland exaggerates the speed of their rides to that degree.

I know that thing! It's "Star Flyer", and judging from TPR's POV...good riddance.

Back on topic -

The Cyclone, as well as Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, Luna Park & Scream Zone all survived hurricane Sandy wirh only minor damage in spite of the parks being flooded.

*Star Jet

I read the name literally seconds before posting that it was "Flyer"

The confusing thing is, on the signage in the park that show how many tickets each ride costs, it is (or was, rather) referred to as "Jet Star." I guess since it replaced a Schwarzkopf Jet Star model, they just didn't bother changing the sign.

Even up until this summer some of the older Seaside Heights residents (the ones who rode Jet Star), call Star Jet "Jet Star." So yeah it's just laziness, and the fact that people haven't noticed.

By the way, my dad says all the rides in Coney Island need to have every inch of wiring replaced per New York law. So expect to see pictures of people tearing the rides apart limb from limb over the winter to get them back operating.

Ohh not the best sight. But i'm amazed Cyclone survived the hurricane. Hopefully just a few wood replacments, cleaning up and the cyclone will live on for years too come.

Last year they partnered with GCI to retrack the coaster over the next three years. If I recall, this is one of the spots they're supposed to be retracking for the off season.
