WARNING: This day trip was carried out by experienced shift workers that are used to seeing sleep as a luxury rather than a necessity. Do not try this at home.
So there's this other coaster enthusiast named Michelle at Wright State that I'm friends with. However, it wasn't until very recently that we were able to go out and go theme parking together. I had invited her onto Chris Coasters and I's fall credit run to do Holiday World with us since Voyage is her #1 and she was in the area, but sadly, couldn't make it. However, she did want to go eventually and after it became my #1, we decided to go for it and make a day trip out there just to allow us to get some more Voyage rides in this season.
However, due to both of us having crazy schedules that involve our presence at events that take place when normal people are asleep, we had to go on a Saturday. As in, Michelle had rehearsal for a show at school she's doing sound on and I had to work a night shift before...and after. I knew it would be exhausting...but it was all worth it #becausevoyage.
So I worked the night before and that was fun. I got home washed all the shift work off of me, whoofed down breakfast, and waited. I was initially going to drive on this trip but being on Saturday, Michelle would be running on more sleep than I would, so she unfortunately got stuck with it. So she picked me up and then began the four hours of carrying on crazy conversation about our crazy lives and me fading in and out of consciousness from sleep deprivation.
This trip was also the only one this season that didn't involve a gooniform t-shirt. Because Michelle had this plan to trick the whole park into thinking we were Canadian (she and I both have this weird love of Canada, what can I say? ) I wore my Canadian flag shirt that I got from an OnRoute on my little Canada's Wonderland trip along with my Leviathan hat; Michelle wore a Rush shirt.
(Because I didn't want to be a **** with a camera with somebody who wasn't being a **** with a camera along with me, I took very little pics here.)
We're here! The park opened its gates and everyone ran to Raven. Our initial plan was to run to Legend before it warmed up and got vile and rough. Not happening; it was down. As in, the lift chain wasn't turning down. Guess we know what that means...
My "Jarrett Being a Goon" video from last season got a lot of lolz out of CoasterForce, true. However, this was probably the gooniest thing I've ever done. Michelle and I were already flipping out on the road when we saw Voyage peak over the treeline. Now imagine both of us in line for the back seat jumping up and down and fangirling as we wait and make a scene and turn heads.
And as usual, it was AMAZING!!! And there was no line, so we went back for more. However, Voyage is just so aggressive you can't just keep getting back and line and marathon it. So we just got off and went to the free pop stand. And while Michelle contemplated what kind of pop she wanted to drink...the shift worker goes RIGHT for the Mountain Dew!
After that we went for Legend again only to discover the yellow sign of death out front; the goon equivalent to the blue screen of death on your brand new laptop. So we went to go grab lunch!
After this, we went to go grab lunch. While Michelle was waiting on her food, I went to go nab us a table. Well she got there and she was still laughing about something that happened at the counter. Apparently the Canada thing was working. She was asked where she was from, she told them, "Toronto," they believed her. XD During our meal we got to listen to the lovely sound of a 7-year old child screaming his head off the whole time.
After lunch we went for another spin on Gobbler Getaway (in which my sleep deprived **** scored a big fat ZERO being unable to hold the **** blaster straight...Michelle did NOT let me live it down! XD) and went for some more Voyage action.
In line for Voyage, there was this guy in front of us asking another if he thought he was American...Michelle and I couldn't just stand there and let that happen! So I ask him, "do you think we're American?" Sure enough, we get, "no, you two are definitely Canadian." All and all, four people got in on that conversation, they even gave us the opportunity to apologize for Justin Bieber on behalf of actual Canadians!
In line we noticed what we thought was an old Legend test seat...
And some nails and a chair...
Voyage was, as expected, amazing! We got a really nice aggressive ride in the first row of the second car, I loved it! Can't get enough of this coaster...long term.
Raven's line had pretty much gone all to Voyage by then so we decided to go end our day on it. Getting in line, we saw this family with a young girl who was crying because the ride scared her and she didn't want to ride...wearing her Raven shirt. In line, these 13-ish year old girls were saying, "I'm praying it breaks down before we can ride!" out of nervousness. Fed up with people being scared of a little coaster like Raven, Michelle just spoke up and said, "we came all the way from Toronto to ride this, we don't want it to break down!" All I can say...you become SO much cooler when you're Canadian! XD
I'm too claustrophobic to like Raven's staircase, though! XD
We had SO much fun ending the day on Raven! Got seats in the back, didn't get stapled in the slightest by the restraints, and it was running really well! I got thrown out of my seat so much, it was awesome!
Snapped a few Thunderbird pics on the way out...but they were blurry. Hey, Michelle drove slowly just so I could get them, so I can't necessarily complain. And from there we began, yet again, the process of driving back while I held conversation some of the time and faded in and out of consciousness the rest.
Michelle stayed for dinner dropping me off. I got to introduce her to my family and we had quite a fun dinner of eggplant Parmesan. After dinner, Michelle went home...and I went to work on roughly two hours of sleep.
Overall, amazing day! Can't wait to do Thunderbird next season as well as more with Michelle, it's great to have a coaster buddy in the same city now!
