The latest-project_furie has finally been completed!

Over the last week or so, on and off, I've been sorted out homestead_Furie.

A lot of this has involved beach loads of pebbles filling in gaps, putting in vegetable patches, planting tomatoes and... Sorting out the bunnies!

Four years ago, we had a large extension built onto the back of the house. This was to house Minor_Furie when Maxi-Minor_Furie arrived and took over our second bedroom (it's a two bedroom house).

No problems there apart from losing a third of the back garden. What wasn't expected though was how long it would take for the garden to get fixed.

Obviously, it was a building site for a few months. Then after it was all finished and cleaned up, the rabbits took over.

The problem with rabbits is that they eat grass, and grass seeds. So the back garden never recovered at all. The rabbits just ate all the new grass.

We have evil rabbits, they won't go into their cage at night - so having a completely blocked off and rabbit proof garden - we just leave them to it, roaming the garden. It keeps them happy and the family_furie rabbit scratch free.

Okay, to the point :)

I need to get the rabbits limited. Their burrowing has subsided the shed, they're almost under the three foot deep concrete fence that keeps them in, and the bloody grass won't grow.

So I've got a lovely spot picked out for them at the bottom of the garden. It gets the sun for four or five hours a day and is just right, out of sight :P

I didn't take photos as I went along (mainly due to the lack of plan and general making it up as I go alongness). So sorry.

First up, I dug over and levelled the bottom end of the garden. I took the fifteen tonnes of soil from the burrow under the shed and filled that in and used the rest. I then buried concrete slabs at least two feet under the ground, and up against the concrete fence. As long as they don't know the number for HSS tool hire - they won't be able to get their mucky paws on a pneumatic hammer, so won't be able to burrow out.

Then, I got dirt from everywhere I could, and built a "play mound" in the middle. Essentially, it's a hill that they can dig through - therefore having their little rabbity natures fulfilled.

More concrete, some fencing and three days later (plus slabs of grass from B&Q) and we have:

A bunny palace! They hate it. They hate me! They are evil and not very appreciative at all :(

I shall keep updates of the escape attempts, and the mess they make of all my hard work as they make my every effort into a farce!

Tomorrow, "Tunnel of Terror" and "Brick up that leak".

So, the advice to halt my rabbity woes all seem to involve "eating bunny". I can't see Madame_Furie being too keen!

Onto yesterday's update.

We left everything green slabbed and perfect...

By Sunday morning though, we have success (to a degree). After a few failed attempts at finding weak spots, the lop-eared lagomorphs of Lucifer dug into the hill! In the right direction (towards the extension, which has six foot deep foundations).

It's a hole!

It's a smug looking rabbit.

It's a mess!!! They've ruined all the lovely greenness! :(

The swines!

More updates as and when anything mildly interesting occurs.

Bunnies.... they're pains aren't they? :P

I'm going to have to attempt some sort of bunny enclosure in the future...

Luckily the present bunny 'Badger' doesn't seem to like burrowing :?

It must be defective :P

I had a rabbit caesar salad a few days ago. First time I'd tried it, and it wasn't bad at all. Probably quite a lot easier to prepare than the current garden situation.

Just something to think about.

I agree with Lain's comments on the twitpic about the poor turfing. Everybody knows you have to overlap it and then stamp it down.

Despite you breaking your back and spending hours and ££'s on containing the pointless animals, that's all I can really comment on.

I don't, and it didn't come with instructions

I'm not very good at gardening, it's something I just don't do. They'd dug up most of it anyway - will have to take more photos I suppose :)

The problem with turf rolls is that they shrink, hence the overlapping technique. Year before last I returfed my nan's back garden which is why I consider myself an expert.

Well, you learn something new every day :)

Both rabbits are bound to die within two weeks anyway, just to spite me!

Now I've seeded my lawn and it's growing, they'll do it just to make sure I have to dig it up again to bury the swines! ;)

Lmao! When you return from the live weekend i bet you find an empty enclosure and a pneumatic drill

They're waiting for the right moment :P

They'd make fetching garden ornaments :P

Perfect for your lovely new garden!

(i feel like we've both wasted the opportunity to joke about them being petrified of the prospect)
