Bonfire Night

How will you be celebrating Guy Fawkes night this year? Perhaps you've already been to a fireworks display, or are you saving it for the night itself?

Apart from watching the fireworks at Legoland each year, I have as little to do with it as possible. On Monday, at 4:01pm I will be leaving work as quickly as humanly possible. Why? I work in Lewes, a town where the celebrations are so legendary, they're regularly mentioned in press around the globe (including yesterday's Wall Street Journal apparently) I went once. It was the single most terrifying night of my life. NEVER again.

So yeah, am I the only miserable one here? Is everyone else getting excited?

I'll be blowing up the Houses of Parliament.

I'd love to do a proper bonfire night, with a bonfire, but effort. And hedgehog deaths.

I think one year, preferably when Kyle is over, it shall have to happen. Guy and all.

Had mine today, went to ATTACKHAMMER'S secret fireworks/bonfire area, lit the slightly damp bonfire watched/ set off some epic fireworks, ate some hotdogs. I love bonfire night.

Am hoping to go to the traditional fireworks on Cambridge's Midsummer Common on Monday. Want to drag ATTACKHAMMER along too but he will undoubtedly be 'too busy'.

I used to love going to the local bonfire in Widnes. It was a massive council run affair with a 30 foot high bonfire and at least 2 minutes of fireworks (that's back in the days when a two minute display was so long it was like heaven itself exploding ;) ).

I've also lit the bonfire at Shugborough Hall a couple of times with flaming arrows shot into the heart of the bonfire (where a bucket of napalm went up. That was excellent fun, but getting out later wasn't. I hate the sitting in traffic for three hours afterwards and I'm now a miserable git and can't be doing with all the cold and standing around

I shall celebrate by doing bugger all. Or I may join Gavin...

Every year my family used to do a massive epic bonfire night fireworks thing, with a massive balls-to-health-and-safety style bonfire and illegal fireworks (these were like, grade 5 when only up to grade 4 are legal for non licensed shows, don't ask how we got them I have no idea). We'd have a massive BBQ and then everyone would get drunk, it was so good <3

Family don't do it anymore which sucks =[ I reckon only LegoLand fireworks for me this year.

American's have no idea about bonfire night. This saddens me because... fire. <3

Ha Lewes actually looks amazing... so jealous I don't live closer.

I'll probably head over to Skinningrove Bonfire. Its a long running annual event ran by a 'creative community' which has a theme each year. The Bonfire's they build are actually quite spectacular.

They did a dragon last year...

Speaking of Bonfire Night and fireworks I believe there has been an incident at Alton Towers in which two fire engines are currently attending.

Lewes is just, vile.

I've always hated those kind of events though... hyped up, way too crowded, spend half the night faffing around and waiting hours to get on a train home. Just, way too many people. I hated every second of it.

Fireworks are burdenous. Once you've seen one display you've seen them all. The whole concept of standing there going 'ooooo, ahhhhhhh' just makes me cringe. People are so dull <///3.

While that dragon thing looks quite impressive, it's missing the whole point of the event: to burn an effigy of a Catholic.

I actually had people near my house setting off fireworks at about 11 this morning. I was tempted to go outside and explain how they are designed to work better against a night sky. Fools.

I think this year, I'll set fire to the roof of Alton Towers ;)

^^I'm looking forward to 9am tomorrow where there will be at least half an hour of fireworks being set off right outside my office window. I can only assume that its their way of "safely disposing" of any leftovers, but it's retarded and irritating.

^Which bit needed the help of insurance money for a replacement/refurb this year?

Is it 4pm yet?

Edit: First bang of the day outside the office at 12:40pm. Joy.
