What's your opinion on the pre-drop on the older B&M's? Miss 'em? Can you do without 'em? I personally enjoy the pre-drops, I love the way they fake you out. However, some may not have the same opinion.
Well, it helps get you over that initial lift hill and gives momentum for the first drop. So I think they are a good thing to have...depends on the coaster type I suppose.
I think that always add a little bit of a kick. I like them to be honest as a tiny appetiser to the rest of the ride. To be honest I can't really explain it, but it just adds a little bit of extra anticipation.
I hate the one on Inverts and loopers, they have a nasty little whip to them if your in the back row, what I tend to do alot with Nemesis, they just hurt my neck.
I'm with Furie. I do actually think they add a little something extra to the ride. It seems like it gives a little bit of a push behind the first drop, I really like them.
I think that on the hypers that have them they would be quite good because they would give you a bit of extra speed going over the drop. However, I think on inverts they stand in the way of possible airtime, for example, oziris is the only invert without one and that had great airtime at the back being pulled over the first drop and I believe that if that had a pre drop then the airtime would not be there.
Agreeing with the others. I think the extra momentum usually makes for a better drop! With the exception being the hypers, the drop on Apollo's Chariot wasn't as good as Nitros or Silver Stars imo. But yes, I miss them!
I used to find them annoyingly pointless, until I rode Superman: la Atracción de Acero, and then I appreciated how they make that first drop so much better with that little extra 'boost' as such.
But then again, OzIris' first drop is very, very good because of the lack of pre-drop.

I miss 'em, but on Leviathan you can't really have one, and that's to avoid overspeed going down the first hill and through the elements. There's already two pretty agressive trim brakes on the hills, I don't think a pre-drop would do it any justice.
However, on certain rides (>245 feet) they're amazing. The closest thing to a pre-drop we have now is the flat chain at the top of the Wing Coasters (which are amazing, by the way). I'm glad to see they're missed (by consensus and popular vote).
I don't really think a 10 foot kicker drop adds that much speed to the ride at the bottom of the first drop. The main purpose of them was to alleviate stress on the chain from the trains, which apparently B&M has fixed since then. Other than the two hypercoasters (Apollo's + Raging Bull), the kicker was featured mainly on rides that as their first course of action was to go into a swooping dive. I believe the only one to go against that grain that wasn't a hyper was Medusa @ Discovery Kingdom.
Cool little feature: yes
Important to the overall experience of the ride: no
