Another DLRP report

Strata Poster
Father Christmas bought me a trip to DLP for Christmas. So here's another trip report for ya!

Day 1.

Today's plan part one was hoping the plane was in enough time for the 10 or 10:15 Train to the park, so I didn't have to wait for the 12pm one - and it was - despite a long journey from the plane landing to the terminal, including a shuttle bus ride!

Part two, was to check in and do the rides which were either new since my last visit or closed on my last visit - That meant Disneyland park for phantom manor and captain EO (particularly important as it was closed on the second and 3rd days), and the studios for ratatouille and toy story land.

Check in was quite a long queue, but my room was ready (at about 11am), so that was cool, and I was in Disneyland park by just gone midday. Captain EO was first, just pointlessly dull - the EO should stand for "Extreme ordure". Phantom manor was ok - I really like the "stretch room" effect, but the ride itself just seems to be rather incoherent, despite a couple of nice effects (like the ghostly dancers). Lunch was the tex mex platter at the last chance cafe - not bad, if a bit unhealthy!

Moved across to the studios and joined SRQ for Ratatouille- The car operation, and tech wizardry was high on the goongasm scale, I could happily spend an hour watching the way the cars "park" before and after the ride. It's brilliantly done, but just seems to miss something in comparison to spiderman and darkastle. a certain must ride though - and I went round a couple more times before moving on to toy story land.

RC racer was a decent family thrill, but the cycle was too short - I'm in 2 minds whether to count it as a cred, because it feels too much like a pirate ship, and the parachute drop also ticked the "good family ride" box, (quick hint - to release the seat belt, theres a white button at the front of the seat!!). looked around the shops, and made a plan for the rest of the day, but realised how exhausted I was during cinemagique, so had buffet dinner at billy bobs (quite nice, if a little cold) and back at the hotel and fast asleep by 8!!

Here's a picture of the hotel bedroom..

(or is it part of the adventure isle exhibit)?

Only downside was I couldn't connect on my mobile - and my Mum was in hospital on the monday, so I really wanted to get in touch with dad - so I decided to pop into Val d'europe to buy a cheap payg phone the next afternoon. so - I bought a phone for 15 euros from darty (service there was dismal!) and a 10 euro top up, find out there's no sim - so I go to get one, only you need a passport even for a pay as you go sim in france, so I had 2 trips there on day 2 - get it charged, and finally figure out how to top up - only to find it can't call foreign mobiles!!

Day 2 morning (disneyland park)

Arrived in the park for just over an hour of the hotel ERT - Not sure why they have 2 hours of ert, and so few rides open! They should just open all of fantasyland so people can get that pretty much finished before the park opens to the masses! Peter pan's flight was ok, so I then did the carousel, tea cups and dumbo, and got a bit of a giggle at the idea of "doing dumbo!". here's some pictures I grabbed before the rest opened:

The castle

Close up

Even closer up of a window

After I'd discovered the "sunny" white balance mode!

Inside the castle

Once the park opened, I finished of fantasyland.

Snow white was first

Really like this ride - just reminds you how evil the oldstyle disney was.

Pinochio was a bit rubbish, Alices labyrinth was just as good as I remembered, small world was, small world, star tours was decent enough, buzz lightyear was good for a shooter, and oribitron was just uncomfortable. I knew Space mountain was closed, but I hated it last time - so no real loss - I missed Casey junior more!

and that took me to lunch time

Day 2 Part 2

After lunch at "au chalet de marionette" - half chicken n chips, yum. The sun was out so I had another look around alices maze and took some pics!

There was some curious wildlife inside:

Smoking is cool(*)

I reached the big Cheshire cat!

And took a selfie!

Now - I could take the way out...

But why do that - when the QUEEN OF HEARTS MAZE is so awesome!?

Sure I've seen this before today!

It's well guarded

Getting to the middle, gives a great photo op

NOTES:
(*) - Smoking isn't really cool, so don't do it kids!

80 views and no comments!! :(

Oh well - Day 2 part 3

I then headed to Pirates and indiana jones - going via adventure isle - an area I hadn't explored last time - It was great, full of caves to explore and the big treehouse - could have spent half a day there easily!
Took pics of skull rock From the outside

and inside!

And saw the stars of UP!

Pirates was just as good as I remembered, and indiana jones was only a little rougher than last time. Unfortunately big thunder was down...

Special mention to the dinner at "the steakhouse" in the village, which was very good

Cassolette of mussels, scallops and salmon

Steak:

Awesome cheesecake

I took a couple of pictures of the castle at night, before the dreams show

Dreams was very, very good!

And it was back to the hotel

I enjoyed the low quality maze post, Dan. I bet it can be solved with the 'hand on wall' technique, unlike a high quality maze.

Definitely agree with you about the Adventure Isle area, such a hidden gem, I didn't even realise it was there before I went.

I didn't see the stars of UP though :(

Nice little report Dan.

The characters from Up are quite hidden in Adventureland, I think they are near Colonel Haiti's pizza outpost. I love that it's like a reward for those paying attention to their entire surroundings. Then again Adventureland and all of its random paths, tunnels and bridges is fab <3

Just realised I haven't finished this report yet!
so

Day 3: Studios

got up later than day 2, saw the massive queue for breakfast and thought "sod that - I'll go to annettes diner in the village", get to the village and find that the diner doesn't open until after the parks open (daft when they do a breakfast), so ended up at mcdonalds, who didn't seem to do double mcmuffins - so just had a single.

And there was an alien in my coffee

First up was Crush's coaster - I have a real soft spot for Maurer spinners - This was just as much fun as last time. I then moved back to ratatouille - the area looks great

I collected a fastpass, and went to take pics of toy story land and have another ride on rc racer

Went back to ratatouille - OMG it was down - my whole day was ruined, just off to post a bad review on tripadvisor!

Rode RNRC again and saw this poster in the queueline

I was at that concert!! :D, the ride is still fun

after ToT and ratatouille, I went back to Annettes for the breakfast - was ok (studios seriously need to improve their lunch offerings - disneyland park has some pretty nice choices)

in the afternoon I did cinemagique (sublime), armageddon (ok), art of disney animation (love the room of oldy woldy animation machinery, rest is meh) and moar TOT awesomeness

There they are...

and there they go!

Went for another buffet dinner (and decided that buffet dinners are naff!), tried to get on big thunder, but it was a 50 minute queue so missed out for this trip - no biggie as I went last time, and think colorado adventure is much better!

Got the train and plane back and lived happily ever after!

THE END
