Annual passes

Hi all,

Just a quick question. I've never had an annual pass before but took the opportunity to buy a half price Merlin annual pass in January to be picked up at Alton towers.

So my question/s; where do I get my passes? What do I need to take with me? How long does it take? What time does it open (I keep reading ERT is an hour earlier than when the park opens)? What other goodies do you get? Are they the same at other theme parks like Thorpe, CWoA?

The Alton AP office is just inside the gates, on the left. When you bought it, you should have got some kind of proof of purchase - take that along and show it to the people manning the gates, they'll point you in the right direction.

It takes around about five minutes to get an AP if there is no queue.

The gates open at 9:00 for everyone, but if you have an AP in hand, you can get through the barriers at the bottom of Towers Street and enter the park - only Alton does this as far as I'm aware.

There are lots of benefits, including AP only queues at Madame Tussauds (if it's still there) and the London Dungeons. You also get a 20% discount on any "park" merchandise or food/drink you buy at a Merlin park. Check before you buy that they're park owned and you get a discount though - some places are under franchise (like Burger King).

Erm, sure there's other stuff, but that about covers the basics.

Thanks for your reply :)

I think you've covered everything I was wondering about.

Although having never got to AT before/at 9am, does Towers street open at 9 you just can't go beyond the end of it into the park unless you have an annual pass?

^That is correct you can get in the park at 9, but cannont go past the end of Towers street without an annual pass or pre-booked ticket.

I actually have another quick question, still regarding APs.

Scarefests at AT, TP and CWoA; are they charged extra? Also what's actually different?

Thanks in advance!

I think the only one you have to worry about would be Thorpe Parks Fright Nights. Annual Pass holders will have to book tickets in advance for around £5.
Although I was completely against the idea when it was announced last year I'm all for it.
It means the park is super quiet and you can get loads done.
Alton and Chessie you should just turn up as normal and use your pass.
