An odd question (within a site issue)

Roller Poster
Hi all.
( This is not where I want to be posting this, and I understand that fully, but this thread and news&rumours are for some reason the only threads I can make topics on? So if an admin could move this to some general discussion/conversation thread that would be great! This really isn't me being dumb... perhaps. Might be because I'm a newbie account? Idk.)

My main point - I need the help of some coaster types such as yourselves. My boyfriend is turning 25 very soon, and as he is abroad for this year, I can't be there for his birthday. He loves birthdays, so this sucks. What is also irritating is that I'm a poor student so can't quite do anything spectacular.
He loves theme parks, and despite being 25, every time we see a model coaster or anything to do with building them he basically comes. I want to send him the Atomic Coaster from KNEX (won't let me post a hyperlink...) and this - 'Universal Studios Ripsaw Falls Rollercoaster Blueprint' (type into google to see!). Do you guys think the former will be good despite obviously being for 9+'s? I'm sure some of you have done the KNEX models before. After flicking around that one seems pretty decent, and at 4ft more impressive than the others, so I think I'll go for that. The ride itself is obviously impossible but still fun.
As for the blueprint, I just think it's awesome. There's a really pretty/interesting one of Ripsaw Falls, but I think if I were to get one of a specific ride it would have to be of one he actually loves, Ripsaw not really being one of them... a general site map of Disney in '55 is pretty great still, in my eyes?
It might be odd that I'm asking for the help of strangers ha... but it's just because although I love his obsession with theme parks and have come to share it almost 100%, I'm still not totally sure these will be good and worthwhile gifts. So just want to check with some park nerds like yourselves...
(: Thanks beforehand for any help!
And god I hope he isn't on this forum anymore. Ha. Awkward.

Hi!

Have you seen the CoasterDynamix models? - http://www.coasterdynamix.com/
I personally don't have any experience with them, but from what I've heard they're pretty cool, and probably a lot better quality than the Knex ones. - But probably also more expensive!

But for other coaster related gifts you should check out this website too! - http://coastershop.de/

Let us know what you'll end up giving him and if he likes it! :-D

Hey, thanks for replying. I did actually look at that site, but it seems as though the only thing within my price range is a train. One day I'll buy him the house-sized ones, but as a student I can only spend about $50 on this haha. Plus because he's abroad anything genuinely good he'll want to keep, but won't be able to bring back over when he comes home. KNEX seems like the easiest 'disposable' option. (: And will do!

We restrict access to where new people can post because of spam issues we've had in the past. These tend to be popular forums so the more you want to be here, the more you can post and all that noise. ;)

As far as K'nex is concerned, you can actually buy three types of coaster, each diversely different in terms of track design.

Original K'nex roller coaster (No longer in production)

Wooden style K'nex roller coaster (No longer in production)

These are possibly more amusing, rewarding and challenging sets, but need a significant amount of "tinkering" and can be easily and cheaply acquired on ebay.

K'nex micro roller coaster

Like the cosmic twist set. These sets are great, but from personal experience, may are significantly flawed, and he'd probably end up building custom models (which are much more interesting)

The "Speed coaster"- http://bit.ly/ToO45b
Corkscrew coaster - http://amzn.to/SeE7su
Vertical Viper coaster - http://amzn.to/TlWz19

Or a combination are ideal for presents!

Good luck!
