Alton Towers £5 Car Park charge

Hi all sorry if this has been mentioned before, but it's pretty scandalous charging £5 to park the car when it's £36 full whack to get in at Alton now? See....

I know you can get cheap deals to get in online etc... but how many people who actually go out of the general public do that? Surprised there hasn't been a backlash against this when everyone seems to have had a right old moan at PBB charging a Fiver to get in if you're not riding (ok, well technically you get a couple of things thrown in for £5 but you know what I mean).

At PBB there are plenty of places nearby you can park for free if you look around. In light of everyone moaning about £5 at PBB to get in, would be interested to hear what people think about the £5 car park charge especially when places like Drayton are free to park too? Oh, and don't turn this into a total bitchfest lol!

Well, considering a LOT of European parks and the majority of American parks charge for parking, I feel more relieved so few of ours charge as opposed to getting so prissy about Alton charging...

Ridiculous.
Ben, just because most european and american themeparks have it, doesnt mean we have to. With the credit crunch, people will want to take the children out for less money, not more. It wouldnt surprise me if Altons attendence figures go down this year.

After all my euro trips this year, all parks did charge for car parking except for tripsdrill! Yes it is a money making thing for the parks, but most of the parks in europe are charging €6 to park which is equilivent to £5. It just the parks to encourage the public to use public transport as its cheaper for them. In a way it does work.

I can guarantee 99% of the parks at the euro live will have car park charges! In a way its just to generate revenue that the visitors that use the BOGOF vouchers. Just covers themselves to be honest!

Maybe the Europeans and Americans want to take their children out for cheaper?

I just think it's a bit spoilt to sit there and complain when what? Two parks in the whole country charge for parking while, I'd guess, around 80% of other parks around the World charge.

Parking is just something that is charged for at a lot of places.

I'd bet anything that Alton don't "OMG SUFFER' from this. And, well, if 100 people don't go, it'll more than be made up for in everyone else's parking charges...

Do you pay to park when you go shopping at a high street? Answer is yes and thats normally £2 for 2 hours.

£5 for a whole day is not to bad.

In the USA and Europe you pay for parking unless you stay at their hotels then parking is normally free, I bet if you stay at an Alton Towers hotel its free. Also the pass gives you free parking, its one of the perks.

That £5 gives you parking and transport to the main park I dont think its over priced at all, its in line with other parks in other countries.

They have been charging for parking for years now at Alton, its not affected figures at all. Most families wont even worry about an extra £5 on the day, as I said had they driven into a town or somewhere for a day out they will still need to pay parking.

Southend even charge for parking on a Sunday and its not cheap.

The only place I would not be happy paying for is Thorpe, and thats due to the car park being a mess. I have once got stuck in their stupid gravel and nearly burnt my clutch out.

£5 isn't bad at all for keeping your car in a fairly safe location surrounded by CCTV. Considering the running costs of the parks I wouldn't complain. I got a pass anyway so it doesn't effect me.

Meh. I park for free anyway. Like others have said. It's not too bad as you'd pay that much anyway to go shopping or something like Marc said.

If the money is pumped back into the park and used on better facilites or rides then I'm all for it. The majority of cars coming would probably have a few people in them anyway so a fiver isn't going to make a huge difference. Also Alton know they can get away with it and I'm guessing the charge it wont affect the attendance figures.

I can not remember where this was posted but WDW parking fees each day pays the wages of the workers.

I should well imagine the money Alton charge is for the up keep of the car parks and of course gets used to pay staff etc. Maybe it also got used to improve the transport from the car park to the park.

Or you can press the black button on the rear side of the barriers. Its very small but they will raise.

Doesn't bother me because:

1. I will be staying in one of the hotels if im at Alton= Free Parking

2. I have an annual pass anyway= Free Parking

:)

Its only a fiver anyway hardly breaking the bank to park your car for a whole day. Look at Airport car parks to park your car!

Your just lazy Erol, and sorry but going on the train from the car park is part of my day. I know it sounds stupid but when your on it it just feels like your there if you know what I mean.

Its like getting the one to Disney or the boat over.
