So we've had Naked Coastering, Bumper Cars and now Fish & Chips...

CHIP fans are in for a treat as the team at Southend’s Adventure Island get frying to try and smash the record for the world’s biggest portion of chips.

On Wednesday, the team at the theme park’s Traditional Fish and Chip Shop will attempt to crack the existing Guinness world record of 368.5kg, which was set in Hereford in 2004.

In a four-hour fry-up, the team will peel, chop and cook the gigantic batch of chips in four deep fat fryers, before they are tumbled into a specially-made giant chip box outside the shop for the official weigh in at 3pm.

Adventure Island Chief Executive Philip Miller said: "Having a fish supper on the seafront is part and parcel of a fantastic tradition that we want to celebrate."

The attempt will be raising cash for Southend hospital’s Bosom Pals breast cancer appeal with visitors able to buy a cone of record-breaking chips afterwards for £1, with the leftovers set to become a tasty treat for pigs at Wick’s Manor farm in Maldon.

Also, anybody who reads Viz should have guffawed at the "fish supper" quote.

Surely the park now holds the record for Most Records at a Theme Park Record?

Ha. I quite like this record attempt and don't know why.

To be honest, I like how the park isn't just doing records for the sake of doing them, or solely at the aim of doing PR for the park. They're also doing it for charities. Yeah, obviously, they'll be getting a **** load of PR from ****, but the fact that it's hidden behind an ulterior motive is pretty clever!

^I've got a feeling this is more the other way though. I think they want the record and figured it'd look good if they did something for charity too. I think it's surprising how many things are actually like that.

^Um...

The last Merlin thing involved whores doing a calendar for a FAMILY coaster...

And this is a charity event, linked into exactly what sort of park AI is...

So, yeah, people moan about Merlin. With reason.

The nacked coaster record attempt was for charity as well, every penny went to charity the park made nothing from it.

Yes it gives them publcity but who cares as long as the money is going to a good cause, it is not lining their own pocket.

Merlin run their own charity and use this to take people to the parks when they could just let them in for free! So god knows why they need to raise money for their own charity.

Nah, I think it's quite cute all these record attempts. All parks need to advertise. Ness-as-well make some money for charity at the same time. It's a bit like AI is doing a Guaridan appeal, and Merlin the Sun's page 3.

UK Park News quote the box they're going to be putting the chips in as around a metre square. I would have thought that'd be way too small for 370kg-odd of chips?

Well, that'll do for an appetizer for me, what are they planning to feed me for a record breaking main course? ;)

The box is 137x116x75cm.

How is that going to be big enough, unless the chips are being fried in molten lead?

EDIT: I've just had my tape measure out, maybe it will be, but would still like to see a pic when it's full!

^ You liked your own post so much that you had to quote it?

^ Was supposed to be editing but I had a moment when I was distracted by the the shock of the playing of a dance song on Radio 2 - so I ended up clicking quote, not realising and editing myself while quoting incorrectly...anyway!

Just pmsl when I read this lol

The record has been completely smashed...

Adventure Island's Traditional Fish & Chip Shop team have just completed the world's biggest portion of chips weighing a whopping 448kg, beating the previous record by 79.5kg.

I'll get some photos on here later today!

Hurray! How exciting :)

Seriously, it's good news and I hope that plenty of money went to charity?

I think its the world record's of nowadays that annoyed me, more than that actual PR side of things. I remember when the Guiness Book of World records was an actual interesting read, about 10 years ago (probably more to be honest), now its just full of crap , and this is a good example. Yeah its good publicity for the park, and there's something in it for a charity, just dont actually put it in the book though.

What was the crap record Drayton went for? Most amount of people in a coloured suit in a theme park...

Tbh, Martyn, I have to disagree.

I find "statistical" records boring. Height, speed..they're all a bit dull tbh even if they are the "great achievements".

The quirkier ones are usually just publicity stunts, but they are interesting, despite being a bit silly.
