Personally, I couldn't give a flying **** and I'm sick to death of the whole **** ing thing already. You just know they'll get married on a Saturday, so i won't even get a day off work out of it.

Discuss.

I think people should stop complaining about cost, etc, whatever, blah blah blah.

A few million up front is NOTHING compared with his future tourist revenue as head of state. I think we should all be thankful there's no inbreeding this generation!

Because giving the engagement ring belonging to your mother who divorced and got splatted in an underpass in Paris is going to bring happiness to the marriage.

He would become king whether he was married or not.

Anyway, I couldn't give a ****, it's all incredibly tedious and dull.

That's got nothing to do with it though :p

All I'm saying is that this wedding is a TINY dent into his future income potential for the nation :)

I think it's exciting and something that will perhaps draw maybe an ounce of pride out of this country. Not to mention - the bunting! (Neal =])

*Dies of immense happiness* :)

So Neal, you'd rather these millions were spent on someone's wedding rather than on healthcare or education. Of course when you compare this to the amount of money that the Royal family make it appears small, but if you look at it as an individual sum of money, it's a huge amount.

I'm not contesting that on the face of it, it's a ridiculous amount of money for a wedding. But when compared with the revenue that's going to come out of it when he becomes King, it's peanuts, so I'm not fussed.

Yeah I'm a Royalist. But there's no point rocking an unarmed boat ;)

It costs the UK taxpayer £1 for the upkeep of the Royal Family. I don't mind paying that, since I'm sure its get ten times the amount back just on tourism alone.

This wedding is being paid for by someone else, not the taxpayer I read today in the paper (The Sun and Metro), plus they estimate a possible £600m tourism/merchandise/tv etc etc economic boom will occur.

I'd bang her, so I don't mind. He'd make a much better King then Charles.[/list]

That's true, sp would I. Maybe it isn't such a chore having the front pages plastered with photos of her.

But to be perfectly honest, I couldn't care to the extent that I can't really be bothered to even discuss it anymore.

^ LOL!

I for one am not jealous of those born in to wealth and privilege. It could have easily have been me, so I hold no bitterness towards the Royals.

I'm glad that we have a Royal Family. It's an iconic British tradition and after years of such identity eroding away, it's great that our future King is planning to continue our heritage.

There's something incredibly satisfying about a big royal occasion. It's a chance for a happy British occasion to be televised around the world, showing off what we're best at.

I remember the feel good vibe in the UK for the Queen's Golden Jubilee. Pubs were granted late licenses, we had a day off work, there were street parties and celebrations everywhere. (Note: I live in suburban Middle England, so obviously I was prone to it.)

Having said all that, I won't be watching the actual wedding or read much about it, but I'll certainly be embracing the pageantry and feel good factor that these ceremonial and grand occasions bring.

About the money thing; it's basically a none issue.

I can't be **** ed to find links now, but the cost of the actual wedding ceremony is coming mostly from the personal fortune of Prince Charles, with some from the Queen, too, I think.

The Great British Taxpayer (what about healthcare and education???!!!!) will foot the bill for security and other logistical crap, estiimated at around £40 million.

Estimated income through tourism (during and in the immediate years following) and merchandising? £750 million.
