A day in the Netherlands

Martyn B

CF Legend
So I've been doing a little research into some 2013 trips, and due to my location (near to Harwich), I can get to the Holland for the day (over night ferry friday and saturday). Could do it for longer, but just 1 day will help save my holiday at work.

So if you had the choice, where would you go for the day? Walibi, Efteling, Toverland? Or maybe Duinrell and Drievliet, both in one day?

I'm genuinely torn.

I'd go to Efteling, it is said to be beautiful, but I wouldn't complain going to any of the remaining 4 either.

PS: this is more a trip planning topic than general discussions, right?

Not really, it's just gauging opinion.

Yes its to help me get an idea for the parks over there, but generally its a thread to discuss the Dutch parks.

If you like sterile, paint-by-numbers parks with loads of creds, then Walibi Holland is for you. Tbh, Goliath is worth the trip alone.

Toverland is awesome. I've always wondered why a lessthanthree follows the word Troy <3 but after riding Troy <3 last month, I would suggest Toverland. Gorgeous park, loads of silly **** to mess about on and four creds including the wonderful Troy <3.

Never been to Efteling but I hear good things.

Bearing in mind you want to do it in a day, Toverland and Efteling are quite far inland and will take about 2 hours to drive from Amsterdam airport (and I think the ferry terminal is further away). Walibi Holland is closest to the airport/ferry terminal.

According to Google Maps, Walibi is 153km from the Hoek, Efteling 99km and Toverland 185km.

I dont think distance should be a problem anyway, as the ferry docks at something like 6am on the saturday, and then leaves at 11pm saturday night.

Whilst I agree that Toverland does look good, it doesn't look like there's enough to keep you there all day, is that right?

I've only been to Walibi, as Ian said, the trip to the park is only worthwhile to go and get Goliath. It truly is a fantastic coaster. The other creds are a bit naff, especially Robin Hood <//3

There is enough at Toverland to fill a whole dfay if you're willing to piss about, but you come over as quite serious, so you'll probably not the sort of person who would mess about on the play areas etc. Anyway, you could always ride Troy <3 endlessly.

Efteling Efteling Efteling. It's a big enough park, LOADS to do. OK, there's no outstanding coaster like Goliath, but everything (and I mean everything from dark rides to water rides to coasters) ranges from good to outstanding. There's loads of weird little attractions, it's absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous, there's shows, good restaurants. Yeah, just, go to Efteling.

Whilst Toverland IS a really fun day out, you're right in thinking there wouldn't be enough to do for a whole day. I've always said that I'd never go again without a big group like CF, it's quirky enough to enjoy with a group with a child-like mentality such as ours, but going with just one other person it just doesn't really work.

Walibi World is disgusting, but if you want to up your coaster count then this park is for you. Goliath is very very good, but everything else is hideous, like a really gross caricature of what a theme park should be. Urgh.

I haven't done the Duinrell/Drievliet trip, but there seems to be a nice handful of 'good' coasters and other attractions, should keep you entertained for the day.

But that doesn't matter, because you should go to Efteling ;]

Basically what Jordan and Ian said.

Efteling is a fantastic "all rounder"

Toverland is probably best experienced with a group of CFers and probably wouldn't be as fun on your own. Although, yes, spending all day sat on Troy (TROY!) <3 just going round and round and round would also be worthwhile.

Duinrell/Drievliet would be fine if you fancied the lazy option. They're close to eachother and are small enough that they can both be done in a day. There's enough fun things there, but nothing truely outstanding. Falcon is my favourite Eurofighter, and the bobsled run (plus the woodland setting) are the best bits of Duinrell. Formule-X alone makes the trip to Drievliet worth it.

Walibi I've never been to. But all this stuff about it being full of creds... Walibi has 6. Efteling as 6. Duinrell/Drievliet have 7 between them.

So, taking all that into account, I'd suggest Efteling as a first choice. It's probably the most beautiful park I've ever been to, and as Jordan said, whilst not amazing, the attractions are solid enough to make it worth the trip. There's also tonnes of hilarious quirky stuff which is entertaining. But don't bother with the arena show, it's the only turd thing there.

That said, If you decide you can't be arsed to go any further than Duinrell/Drievliet then that woud be a fairly reasonable choice too.

Lots of great advice, thanks.

There's a couple of smaller, less-known Dutch parks that I have on my radar; Attractiepark Slagharen
(doesn't have much coaster wise, but I seem to remember it attracts something like 1.8m visitors each, so something must be good?) and Avonturenpark Hellendoorn (looks like it has a decent little line up of rides. But both these parks are close by to Walibi World, so doing all 3 in one trip could be an idea.

For such a small country, Holland does have quite a few decent looking parks.
