The new “Blinky Bill Zone” adventure area dedicated to the Australian koala bear opening in April is part of the planned park expansion through 2028. In addition, new indoor attractions are being created, including a theatre game around the cartoon character Biene Maja, as well as a Smurf...
Before anyone asks, Lex Luther: Drop of Doom will remain in operation.
No biggie to me since Lex is still operational. I've skipped riding the coaster on all my visits after I rode it when it changed in 2010.
The article I read is local to Dallas, but I also assume it's because the chain's headquarters is located there. The park's also imposing the 15-and-under chaperone policy year round, after a successful tryout during last year's Frightfest. However, I think I remember reading somewhere that the...
Six Flags Over Texas is transitioning to a cashless payment system, accepting only card payments at all locations within the park. For visitors who only have cash, the park has introduced reverse ATMs that convert cash into prepaid debit cards. Park officials recommend pre-purchasing parking and...
Lots of fun riding this baby, but I had to take a break. Riding backward for that amount of time makes it difficult to marathon the coaster.
Here's our ridercam video. I'll post the off-ride footage in a day or two, and Scott and I will return to the park later this year to film our own POV...
It's bouncy. Very bouncy. I was expecting some bounce on the launch, as that's all I heard about the coaster before riding it yesterday. However, I didn't expect it to continue non-stop throughout the entire ride. It felt like I was Lewis Hamilton in his 2022 Mercedes W13 Formula 1 car. The back...
Here's the off-ride video I filmed with Scott's DJI Osmo Pocket since my camera malfunctioned at the last minute. Brandon from ao-ent gave me the drone footage.
I've been trying to return to film at the park for a decade, but their PR guy keeps refusing to allow it. I wanted a mounted POV, but he's a corporate type who came from a chain park and claims it takes too long to mount a camera (40-60 minutes). It actually takes us 5-10 minutes. Here's the one...
Correct. The current fins on the ride are fine for halfpipe (Surfrider) models with only six seat spinning gondolas (if that's an appropriate term). However, the two spinning gondolas on the Ultra Surf have 10 seats and require taller fins to get the gondola to start spinning, as @MLDesigns...
I checked back with the SF employee who told me about the issue and they thought that LSMs were "spin fins". (Not all employees know coaster parts, no matter how high up the chain they are.) I corrected my post above.
Here's Scott's ride. At the time he didn't know that the fins were the issue...
That didn't go well. I posted those on January 10th/16th and it's already been announced that the park will permanently close on March 30th due to financial difficulties under its current vendor. The Storyland-Playland board is exploring options for a new vendor again, but I don't see that...
Another screw up. Something Six Flags could have done without.
I don't understand how Intamin took so long to discover that using the "spin fins" from their half pipe coasters doesn't create the power needed to spin these bigger models. I know this is the first of its kind, but it was supposed...
Holiday World & Splashin' Safari has acquired Santa's Cottages, a 23-acre lakeside resort in Santa Claus. This is the theme park's first acquisition in its 79-year history. The park aims to become a multiday destination by offering fully furnished units and recreational areas, including lakes...
The once-exclusive Spaceship Earth Lounge at Disney World's Epcot will soon welcome all park visitors. The lounge was previously known as the Siemens VIP Center, which was always attached to Spaceship Earth. It was exclusively used by corporate participants to entertain guests, however, all...
If you're closing the park, you have plenty of time to sell it and then take it down upon purchase. Paying to take it down before the season starts would only be done if it was already sold (which it wasn't) or to have it ready to sell before the park opens for the season.
Surely it must have been a last minute decision to abruptly close, considering the park deconstructed Drench just a month ago. They must have been planning to open right up until very recently. Otherwise, why bother taking it down at that time?
