Gotta be Hyperia for me. Icon was my number 1 for a while but I have to agree with you on the lack of standout moments. Hyperia just has that wow factor.
It would certainly be interesting to see a launched coaster go into Portugal. It sounds like this could be a great fit for the park too, if those comments about the layout are anything to go by! I'm very intrigued to see what they've cooked up for this one.

I think a lot of it is nostalgia, for sure. Like you, my home park growing up had a rickety old woodie (still running!), and riding it now is a very different experience than it was when I was 10. There's just something about the atmosphere of an amusement park that brings you back.

You're spot on about the new Vekoma Flyers being a whole different beast than the old ones! F.L.Y. is a masterpiece, but yeah, that price tag is probably scary for a lot of parks.
