Fury 325 Closed - Support Fracture

As an engineer (in a different industry) I would look at this as an isolated incident. Cracks are a relatively common occurance in this industry but we are talking hair line minor cracking on older pieces of hardware that is usually discovered with NDT methods before its even visible to the...

    Accident at Gröna Lund

I knew about the mindbender incident and looked into it extensively a number of years ago. So to see another schwarzkopf ride fail, causing a fatality in the same way with the wheel assembly is concerning. And I didn't even know about the 2019 incident on another similar ride. Something that...

    Rides that don't feel safe

I struggle with odyssey at fantasy island. Have rode this plenty of times in the past but something puts me off it now other than the inevitable pain factor. When I last rode it in 2012 the trains rattled and banged their way around the layout and felt very worn out, shunting from the car behind...

    Rollercoasters which are too intense?

i305 is too intense for me, makes my eyes stream! I do agree with those who mention the reverchon spinning coasters. The Maurer spinning are a lot easier on the laterals. Also a mention for the Vekoma boomerangs - the backwards loop feels very intense going in

What is your favourite Vekoma SLC?

I had the pleasure of riding kumali brand new - it was a very pleasant ride, the Vekoma zero g roll is a pretty good effort and that first drop is quite forceful on the ground level banked turn. It is a shame the shenlin layout is a little short. I can’t speak for how it rides now. Probably as...

    Roughest B&M?

That I’ve ridden - I’m sure there are much worse.

    Biggest Disappointment...

For me it’s thi13teen due to the massive hype involved. When news of the next secret weapon broke I remember being really excited about it and following it extensively. When the finished product was revealed I remember having a massive feeling of underwhelming. It is just a 40mph mine train ride...

What is your favourite Vekoma SLC?

Odyssey is top of the table for obvious reasons, no other SLC is remotely close in terms of height, drop, inversions and speed. Most of that lends itself to the fact it’s custom and separates itself from the cluster of SLC clones. It’s main obvious flaw is the roughness. And when you dissect...

What was your first coaster with an inversion?

Millennium coaster at fantasy island, which happened to be my first coaster credit age 8. A 150ft lift hill and 100ft vertical loop, followed by sidewinder and another loop, is pretty good going despite the rest of the layout being that of a mine train more than anything else.

What was your first coaster to feature a launch?

Rock n roller coaster. The Vekoma magnetic launches were pretty lethal for a first time launch!

    Rank the Intamin Launch Coasters

I have 2 creds in this flavour and both are poor. Certainly if I ridden all Intamin launch coasters I think i would put these at the bottom if this was a ‘worst’ poll. But because this is a best poll I have to put my personal favourite of the two... i can’t. Rita , a modest 61mph launch is not...

    Roughest B&M?

That I’ve ridden it has to be dragon khan but it’s excused, certainly better than most 24 year old coasters. It’s not that rough it’s just noticeably ‘bumpier’ than most B&M rides. Even for B&M near perfect track profiling, 24 years of hard use is certain to fatigue the track somewhat.

If i go to alton towers...

I would bypass thirteen personally. It usually has one of the worst queues and the ride is trimmed to hell.

    Underrated Family Coasters

Thirteen at alton towers. Oh wait? Sorry i thought the thread said overrated family coasters :D

    Your B&M Count

Not particularily impressive, in order with the dates first rode Nemesis (2003) B&M INVERTED Oblivion (2003) B&M DIVE MACHINE Dragon Khan (2006) B&M SIT DOWN Air (2007) B&M FLYING Shambhala (2014) B&M HYPER

    Your Boomerang/SLC Count.

Ive rode 1 BOOMERANG (now dismantled) and 2 SLC (one custom and one shenlin). Ive never rode the standard SLC rig. Luckily for me though the Shenlin was brand new at the time (kumali at flamingo land) and was very pleasant indeed. The custom was Jubilee Odyssey and even rode this brand new but...

    Roughest/Worst coaster you've ridden?

Times have changed. Steel rides can be just as bad as woodies. Furius Baco (2007) possibly more unbearable than the Grand National (1935). The thing is woodies are allowed to be rough and somewhat add to the fun factor of it. And the Grand National is 80 years old! Furius Baco shouldn't be as...

    Is Colossus Rough?

I find colossus rough. The worst part is the condition of the track, it's worn out and bumpy. The last time I rode it the whole rig looked very unsightly with all the grease off the chain lift collecting on the supports.

Rides that still genuinely scare you...

Scare me in two different ways. For the element of being scared due to the inversions/intensity of the ride I would probably say Dragon Khan as its pretty brutal. Its a nice ride but its a never ending cycle of intense inversions. Not many rides make me feel nauseous but this one does. For the...

    Coasters that have been modified

Not exactly, the original overbanked turn had to be lowered as the train kept stalling in high winds, modifications were made to the sidewinder too. I think actually the overbanked turn 'horseshoe' as vekoma call it has been modified 3 times in total. In the time the coaster has had to loosen...
