    Verifying Stats

I think the issue of the sharp dive vs. the sweeping MF-style dive is that it takes longer (even if just slightly) to get down. ***MATH*** It's more complicated than what I'm about to say, because the vector field changes as time progresses (higher speed equals more wind resistance, plus...

    Verifying Stats

The physics behind all of this is definitely cool. I've had an interest in curvature and mechanics for a long time, though I never got into physics deep enough to have serious discussions about how air resistance works or what happens when we realize that objects in life AREN'T points. I kind...

    Best New Thing of 2015

Which traditional woodie goes upside down? Does you mean the modification to Hades 360?

    Verifying Stats

Height wasn't a good example because, yes, that's locked in by the blueprints. I started thinking about this when I saw some stats about speed, though. According to Wikipedia Bizarro: 221ft at 72 degrees = 77mph Nitro: 215ft at 68 degrees = 80mph Behemoth: 230ft at 75 degrees = 77mph Nitro...

    Verifying Stats

Who verifies stats? I'm curious if, for instance, Cedar Point could have gotten away with MF's drop being 299 feet instead of their claimed 300. (I've never heard this as a rumor, but it seems like something that could happen.)

    Most Harshly Scrutinized Coaster?

I really like Hydra. It's very different from the other B&Ms. There's an inclined dive loop that may or may not turn you upside-down. The zero-G roll leads to a corkscrew that goes the opposite direction. There's that roll right out of the station, which is one of the weirder sights on a...

How many different number 1s have you had?

Jack Rabbit Thunderbolt Steel Phantom El Toro Millannium Force Diamondback The first three happened as I got old enough to be tall enough to ride the big coasters at Kennywood.

Lake Compounce (and Boulder Dash in the snow?)

I could do that. Google says my round-trip ride is about six hours, which might be accurate if I drive at goofy hours and stop along the CT Turnpike to sleep (so that I can leave at 5am to head up to SFNE and miss NYC traffic). It's looking like I'll be able to hit up Dollywood and Carowinds...

Lake Compounce (and Boulder Dash in the snow?)

I'm in Pennsylvania. I know that dashing through the snow this month isn't going to happen. (I couldn't resist.) That's disappointing news about Boulder Dash not running. I kind of know that I'll head up there over the summer, but what else can justify that? There's good news, though...

Lake Compounce (and Boulder Dash in the snow?)

I will be around eastern Long Island a bit when summer hits. I've Googled my ride time and it's 2.5 hours each way, assuming that I don't get smacked going through NYC (though I have yet to look into taking a ferry to Connecticut). I have a bit of a problem going there for one coaster. What...

    Social Media Morons

I don't even get what happened to the kid. The harness wasn't pressed against him as hard a possible? I thought we went out of our way to avoid getting stapled.

    What is a barrel turn?

Nitro and Diamondback at the top, right? Do you have an overhead view of Fury? I'd like to see how much the turn yaws by the time you exit, but Google doesn't have a recent picture of Carowinds! I'd call Leviathan's hill an overbanked turn. It doesn't seem at all like Fury's turn, but it...

Does Steel Eel have floater or ejector air?

So did you ride yet? Which is it?

    What is a barrel turn?

What is a barrel turn (of Fury 325 fame)? I've seen what the element does, but what does it have to do with a barrel or barrel roll? Has the term been used before? I've wondered this since Fury was announced.

    Best SUSTAINED Airtime You've Gotten

That's a great pop of ejector air, but I'd hardly call it sustained. It's first drop and first two hills are pretty good, though. Diamondback ought to appear in this list. It might not have had the best single hill, but every hill had me floating for a while. At least one of Skyrush's first...

    Cool hill-like elements

The coolest part of I305, after the INSANE visual from the top of the lift ("Where's the up?"), is after the air hill. It drops down while curving left and then rises while continuing its curve. It crests a hill and levels out, only to turn left and drive a bit. I think that adds an...

I imagine it zipping around waterfalls, so Bizarro is probably the better comparison. Any cool twister elements you can think of?

    Cool hill-like elements

I've only been on the Hulk, and that was before I knew anything about physics and thought about forces (i.e. ejector vs floater...it was all just airtime). But B&M's MO is floater, not ejector. With any luck, they will start doing some more ejector, like if they build a giga at Great...

    Cool hill-like elements

That makes it look like a 90 degree turn, confirmed by a satellite photo. I suppose that it could follow/precede a Fury-style turn, though to be part of the "back" part of a hypercoaster. My favorite coaster (Diamondback) doesn't really have the "out" and "back" parallel, so maybe it's not so...
