I don't mean the data that you would get from something like NoLimits. Yes, they know how long the ride will be. They know about what the speed and forces will be. I would want experimental data, however, for something like angular momentum in the wheels and how that interacts with additional...
For the inversion count, why wouldn't you just call it the number of times your head points down (or sufficiently close to straight down)? That's a property of the track, not rotating seats like a 4D coaster. This method breaks down for 4D coasters (unless you count the 4D spin, which I...
I saw Fury 325 at the top of the page. It was a close picture of the train, showing that it had the standard 4-across arrangement rather than Diamondback-style.
"There should be a B&M giga with staggered seats," I thought. "Let me go work on that in NoLimits."
But then I realized that those...
I read this wrong at first, and my immediate thought was Steel Phantom. Would you count that, even though it was built in 1991? It's an Arrow corkscrew coaster---no real technology differences from Viper, Scream Machine, or Shockwave (from 1990, 1989, and 1988, respectively).
Why the insistence on "forcefulness"? I like forces, particularly the negative ones, but why do you consider it necessary?
I've gotten my dad on a few big coasters. His comment about two B&Ms, Raptor and Hulk, was that they made it feel like he was flying or skiing, as if he wasn't moving but...
For people who have ridden RMCs, how much do those feel like the fast Intamin transitions that are on I305 and Maverick? I'm really excited for Lightning Rod, but the snappy roll transitions on those two ruined those rides for me.
(After messing around with FVD++, I've decided that Intamin's...
So I click "Post Reply" and go to the login screen, and it's Leviathan in the photo up top.
Anyway...
It's not just an illusion why slower rides seem faster. Sure, their mph (km/hr, whatever) is not as quick, but consider looking out the window of an airplane. You have nothing against which...
I like where this has gone. I hadn't considered spectacular views when I mentioned Nitro. I like that one because it's secluded, unlike most of their other big coasters. There are some great photos, though. Ocean Park is really spectacular.
Regarding GateKeeper, I don't think much of it's...
Re: Atlantic City | unknown | US Thrill Rides Polercoaster
I'm one of them, too. I'm a new member to this site, but I'm not a new coaster enthusiast. That pessimism comes with experience.
(How's that for cynicism?)
My closest big park (or at least the one I go to the most) is Great Adventure. Most of their coasters are near the paths. El Toro is along a main path. Batman is surrounded by paths. Kingda Ka is by the parking lot, which is something like a path.
Nitro goes into the hills, away from most...
Re: Atlantic City | unknown | US Thrill Rides Polercoaster
There aren't even any under construction, and there are serious doubts by senior members of this site that they will happen at all.
(Or is it just for the Skyscraper in Orlando that members tend to think it won't happen at all? The...
Then get rid of Mean Streak and make it a hybrid! I can believe this, though. Cedar Fair was pals with Intamin when they started making prefabs, yet they didn't get one.
It seems to me that parks, not manufacturers, would have the leverage. That is, B&M wouldn't be able to tell Cedar Fair...
Ripsaw Falls at IOA
I've heard that there have been some modifications since I was there at least 12 years ago, but when I went in ~2002, I thought it was cool.
They have a lot of good non-coasters. The rapids ride was fun. The Jurassic Park water plunge ride had a fun drop. The Spider Man...
Something about the classic wood coaster look is appealing, including the rails along the side.
Is there any engineering reason why RMCs don't have catwalks and rails along the track for most of the layout? I get why it's problematic when there are rolls beyond 90* (which they do plenty), but...
Is Eejanaika problematic? They're not the same, but what about the free spin rides? If not, then it could just be an issue with X2 or with X2 being the first go at it.
Either way, B&M is pretty smart. I'd expect them to figure it out.
They could have done this with GateKeeper!
If Intamin is making cars that rotate, why can't B&M? (I'm still suggesting B&M as the manufacturer because Cedar Fair seems to like them.)
The layout would have been different to take advantage of the spin, but I really like this idea (and I like...
Also rule out a wood coaster, which doesn't seem to interest them one bit.
I think a EuroFighter/Infinity would be fun. I'm not a fan of doing a flying coaster, but I've never been on either of the two that I've heard are really good (Manta and especially Tatsu). A launched B&M sit-down...
But does anyone have two B&M inverts? Or two hypers? Or even a floorless and sit-down inverting B&M? I wouldn't object to something like Kumba, but that doesn't seem realistic.
I have a couple of thoughts on why they've not yet RMCed Mean Streak.
1. Then Blue Streak is their only wood coaster. Most premier parks have a big wood coaster.
2. Six Flags paid to have RMC keep away from Cedar Fair for a while.
As much as it seems like an odd choice, Valravn looks like...
