In your opinion, what's wrong with Derren Brown's Ghost Train, and why did it fail?

This all being said, using Game of Thrones as an example, it is surprising and unexpected in a coherent and thematically viable way. If in the middle one episode Ned Stark walked into a room and suddenly the room was in 18th Century France I wouldn't think that was a clever surprise, I'd think...

In your opinion, what's wrong with Derren Brown's Ghost Train, and why did it fail?

As far as I'm concerned the only illusion in the entire ride is the hanging carriage. The rest is not illusions, it's basically just screens. Hardly impressive. Additionally it's slow loading times and regular breakdowns mean it is almost impossible for the ride to live up to the hype. Its...

Do you ever regret becoming a theme park enthusiast? Are there cons to this hobby?

I regret it right now whilst I can't go to the international parks. I've spoilt my opinion of the parks nearer by going to better ones further away. Now I cant go to those further ones!

    Oblivion - Misleading “Drop” Stats?

My understanding is that the 'height' of 65ft is measured from the top of the land behind the drop and NOT from the plaza / hole area. The plaza / hole itself is significantly lower. I believe it is 180ft as advertised.

What do you consider a “good” ride count at a theme park?

I think I'd be disappointed with anything below 1 major ride per hour, but in general it's more to do with not doing the main rides I want to. EDIT: in general I'm more than happy to be an opportunist and ride smaller rides as and when I see them at parks I'm familiar with. I'd happily ride...

I need help looking for a any coaster restraints

You've done everything apart from the seat? Really, EVERYTHING? How are you achieving the spin? I have no idea how you'd get a coaster seat and restraint. I cannot imagine you can just buy a seat and restraints and if you could I imagine it would be incredibly expensive. How much money do you...

    Rank the Disney Parks

Only ranking the ones I've been to, and the year I last visited: Disneyland Paris (2012) Love the different takes on the classic rides and it's a beautiful park. Magic Kingdom (2014) So much to do and lots of classic rides. Animal Kingdom (2014) Stunning scenery, love seeing the animals...

Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Probably not, SBNO is normally their style.

What were the UK Merlin parks actually like during the Tussauds era?

Tussauds were not perfect. However, what they did do was oversee the growth of many parks into major destinations we know today. Chessington grew from a zoo into a theme park under them. The park arguably peaked in 2000, and I'd argue that Tussauds also let the park decline beyond that. Merlin...

Most ridden coasters & most visited parks?

Oof, a tough one to remember as I've not actually written any of this down. I'm going on gut feeling alone. I've probably visited Efteling or Disneyland Paris the most times. I've done 7 trips to Efteling, most of which were for at least 2 days. I estimate 19 visits. I've done 8 trips to...

Your most embarrassing theme park moments

I visited Efteling alone in January 2014. It was a really quiet day and one of my first rides was Vogel Rok. I entered the station and I was the only one waiting. I sat a the front of the coaster on my own. I did the ride, but by the time I returned to the station it had filled out. So, I...

Europa Park | Voltron | Mack Rides Stryker Coaster | 2024

I feel like much of this is unfounded speculation. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What coaster manufacturer would you solely rely on for the rollercoasters in your dream park?

Intamin or Mack because they do such a range of products.

    CoasterForce COVID-19 Vaccination Poll

I am fairly young to have had the AZ vaccine, and all my peers of the same age had Pfizer. First shot in March and second in May. I have major effects from the first and lesser from the second. I don't get the concern over blood clots given that Covid itself is more likely to give you blood clots!

Coasters or rides with two very different halves.

I wasnt quite sure how to word the title, but posting in the 'marmite coasters' thread got me thinking about rides which are half bad and half great. What rides have the biggest variation in quality over their own ride duration? The ride that comes to mind for me is Saw The Ride at Thorpe Park...

Question about coaster size terms for non-U.S. American enthusiasts

In the UK, although we use metric measurements for most things, we do still use miles per hour and miles on the roads. As a result I am more likely to comprehend speeds in those measurements. Although I use metres on a daily basis, because forums and coaster enthusiast sites are mostly US based...

    Marmite Coasters

For the Smiler I am in both camps! I loved it when I first rode it, but literally the second time I rode it it made me feel sick! I both appreciate it but also feel it's an enormous gamble for me to actually ride. I both love and hate it. Big marmite one for me is Space Mountain at Disneyland...

Hall Of Shame - Types Of Rides That Deserve To Be Inducted

Although they get a bad reputation, I think there's something clear about how compact Vekoma SLCs are, and I don't want to hate them even though I don't want to ride them I would however banish to the Hall of Shame all VR attractions.
