Alton Towers | The Smiler | Gerstlauer Infinity

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st ^The council site has a bunch of revised documents that show detailed theming - I've no idea how long they've been available, I only saw them today. I don't want to start the "it's not the real track" discussion *again*. Just my humble...

Alton Towers | The Smiler | Gerstlauer Infinity

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st So the train configuration fits Gerstlauer but not Maurer Söhne, while the track rendering on the plans fits Maurer Söhne but not Gerstlauer! We're not confused at all :P. Now that I've actually seen the proper theming in the revised...

Speed Hump / Camel Hump query

Speed's airtime hill is one of my favourite ever coaster elements; the power in it is fantastic. But I can see how it's not universally liked :P. Baco's speed "drop" works because it happens prior to the Shaking of Death.

    Fantastic old coaster footage/pics

I'm going to stick there here, as I just found the pic and it's quite rare to find one! The old Figure 8 coaster in Porthcawl (top-right in the pic). For some reason as a kid it took me ages to get the courage to ride it, and although it looks pretty basic I remember it as a tangle of white...

    The worst roller coaster accidents

This isn't the worst, but it sticks in my head for being my first "big" coaster which I rode countless times as a kid in the 70s-80s:- http://www.independent.co.uk/news/boy-killed-on-water-ride-at-fairground-1367475.html Basically it was an old circular Water Chute (from the 1930s I think)...

Disneyland Paris to celebrate 20 years

^Oh the hilarity. The Empire State Building has been known to celebrate St David's Day with the roof lighting - nothing wrong with the occasional bit of cross-culturalism! Either that or the French are still feeling guilty about that semi-final.

    Europa Park |"Wodan"| GCI Wood

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012 Oblivion specifically has the pause over the drop to emphasise the tension, which is a very unusual feature - hardly anything out there feels like it! And no woodie is going to do that obviously. But Marc was contrasting Oblivion to Sheikra, and I...

    Coffee

I like the way coffee and tea seem to be mutually exclusive! I like both :). I ADORE a good coffee, but it has to be good. For many years I worked at an office where my team were sat next to the vending machine. Thanks to watching the maintenance guy fixing it one day, we learnt the "free...

    Favoured blade for shaving.

I've got a nasty combination of a sensitive neck and a strong and fast-growing beard! Hence over the years I've tried everything I can get my hands on. Disposable razors can't cope. Electric razors can't cope either and cut me to shreds - and I've tried cheap ones, expensive ones, wet, dry...

    Favourite Movie Soundtrack

^Zimmer & Mansell both feature on my list, but the clincher for me is... The Thin Red Line. Just stunning. Zimmer wins :).

    The X Factor 2011

I'm watching last week's now, on severe FF. Weirdly, only Louis's acts are actually singing in key (except for Misha) - even The Fag! (Clever choice of song). Most of the rest are APPALLING, simply gash. We sing better in the Vampire queueline FFS. I already know the result following an...

    English Football Season 2011/12

^I wasn't happy about it! Felt sick. Knew it was going to happen though - Swans have a horrendous habit of giving the ball away stupidly in the second half of games. We so should have scored a third *sulk*.

    The X Factor 2011

Misha, Marcus and, shockingly as she's a total bunny-boiler, Kitty, are the only 3 worth spending any time on. The older bloke in The Risk is constantly out-singing the other three, the girl group look & sing like they're in a bad primary school play, and Janet and Frankie are appalling - they...

    The X Factor 2011

I do not get the support for the drippy Irish one (Janet?). Not only is her voice weaker than a mouse breaking wind, but she clearly can't even dress herself - tonight she looked like Edward Scissorhands's long lost sister. And yet Amelia, who can actually perform, was dropped. To think that...

    Euro Attractions Show 2011

When I was 11, I had to specially subscribe to a weekly amusement trade newspaper in the hope of getting a glimpse of a new ride! You lot don't know you're born :).

    Thorpe Park |"The Swarm"| B&M Wing Coaster

The Swarm - B&M 'Wing-Rider', Thorpe Park 2012 *Sigh* Or "I'm pretty sure we're not the only 2 that are very excited for this." I must admit, the station infrastructure looks a little taller than I expected. Is that going to alter the size of the actual ride? No. Seriously guys, pace...

    Euro Attractions Show 2011

They're a flat-ride company more than coasters, and made 2 of my favourite flat-rides ever - Pegasus at Tivoli Friheden, and the amazing Vertigo at Tivoli Gardens (5g for 30 seconds <3). Loved the reports! I've done a few Expos, there's something inherently exciting about them :).

    English Football Season 2011/12

What's that? First goals in the Premier League? First win? Up to 12th? HELL YES :D Shame some idiotic Baggies decided to chant during the minute silence for the miners & West Brom player. Have to say, they were the worst team we've seen in the Premier League thus far. And Odemwingie is a thug...
