After 30 minutes in a queue, I can't see how you'd be any less bored if the area was themed or not. How excited about it can you get? I'm not saying it can't be nice, but boredom is boredom. If it made any difference Tesco would have themed their queues into mini Parisian boulevards to captivate...

I agree with this. However, the Pleasure Beach have been guilty of pushing this attitude as much as anyone. At least staff will get proxy revenge for you (and for themselves for the pay and hours) on the last day of the season by filling anything water-based up with washing powder. It'll be soapy heaven on Icon. The Log Flume used to look a treat!

Okay, interesting stuff thanks. The speed issue seems to be at the end of the ride and you go round that 360 degree turn. Is that down to more cautious braking then? The first drop isn't slower than it was, but it feels like less of a vertical drop than previously.

The first drop was a fair bit different, and it did race its way into the station rather than the crawl you get now. It was just for the first year though.

Yeah, I not coming at this as someone who has been on 500 rollercoasters. To me, it's same manufacturer, same type of trains, same type of track with similar banks and features. Once you really get into something these marginal differences must become obviously bigger, but someone like me sees...

I just watched a POV of Helix. It doesn't have the interactions Icon will have, but isn't the track layout better? It seems to have more exciting elements and turns. It'd be a shame if this couldn't beat it's sister rides in terms of quality.
