They updated the film slightly the year after it opened to tie in with the Rise of the Demon theme - but I don't think the physical headsets have been updated. It seemed pretty poor quality when I rode it in October, so I would say the headsets hadn't been updated.
I like being proved wrong...
The whole concept of DBGT is flawed. From the VR which was in it's infancy (I would still say it is) to the mid-journey 'scare zone' - the whole thing is a massive waste of time and money. I understand what they were trying to achieve, but it could have been executed without the VR to much...
Nothing like milking an IP for everything it's worth. When will Merlin learn that these style of walk-through attractions are always short-lived and bad investments?
I personally think it's a great fit for the park. Legoland are probably looking to extend the visitor age at the park, as I can imagine visitors will drop off once they hit 10+, whereas having a slightly more thrilling coaster with inversions will keep older kids entertained. On the flip side...
This genuinely looks like a game-changing roller coaster for Parque Warner Madrid.
I did it about 8 years ago and thought it was an okay park with nice theming but wouldn't have returned... until now. I imagine many other people will feel the same too!
Yes you're right on that part @Nicky Borrill - they are spending a huge amount over the next few years - but it does seem counter-intuitive to keep renting year after year when the cost of renting could outweigh a purchase. I'm no expert on the cost of these rentals or purchases, but I'm sure...
Surely after three years of renting these cheap-looking fairground rides they could have bought some actual new rides for the park? It was fine for a filler year after COVID-19, but they've outstayed their welcome...
Why do these graphics look so poor? It's like they've whipped them up using paint.
Seriously Alton Towers, you're one of the top visitor attractions in the UK if not Europe - either do it properly or bring in an agency to do it for you.
It's the end of an 'era' - make a spectacle!
I agree with you @Nicky Borrill
I think someone at M£rlin has the foresight to invest in attractions that can be potentially run year-round - look at all of Legoland Windor's investments over the past decade. They now successfully run almost all year round apart from a small closed season...
They would potentially have a huge captive audience year-round being so easily accessible to London. As far as I am aware there isn't anything similar in the area.
If they were to create a well-themed Waterpark it could really help bolster the hotels during the off-peak periods too.
Potentially could we be looking at a re-build of Vampire similar to Nemesis?
It's surely got to be nearing the end of its operating life - even if it did have a refurb in 2002 - that was 20 years ago!
Looks like it's the marketing interns' 'time to shine'...
They're spending probably €20 million + on this huge new roller coaster, probably one of the most exciting to arrive in Spain for well over 5 years, and they announce it on a rubbish graphic - where's the creativity!
I rode it a few years ago and it was pretty terrible, but it's always sad to see a classic dark ride closed in place of an IP. I highly doubt there will be the same level of nudity in the new version, which is a crying shame.
That's quite a brave move considering most other theme parks at the moment seem to be scaling back operations from year-round due to demand and staffing issues.
But nice to see places trying to buck the trend, and if the weather allows, it's worth giving it a shot!
The structure is already looking pretty good - they just need to make sure they don't scrimp on the trees and foliage - as given a few years of growth that could look awesome :D
