Just got back, thanks to Serena for organising!
I definitely want to do more of these as it was a lot of fun seeing everyone there and had a great atmosphere. Full of that "Merlin magic".
I like going fast and doing acrobatic manouvers, and really a good rollercoaster makes me feel alive. Plus all the different details, variants, inversions, elements, etc. fulfills a certain nerdy niche of collecting useless facts.
It depends. Abroad I will try to cram a lot in but also have a few sections of downtime if possible, especially since it's expensive and there's only limited amounts of time. I like to walk around and see where places go for the sake of it, especially on solo trips, where trips with others might...
"Well actually, Iceland and Finland aren't part of Scandanavia"
No but seriously this looks like an awesome trip. I've always enjoyed visiting the northern countries. Definitely missed out on Linnanmaki's observation tower, was kind of focused on getting the creds in plus Taiga rerides. Taiga...
This trip's gonna be chaos, I just hope to god Hyperia is actually open as it has maintenance on during the week apparently and I'm probably one of the only people going to the live that hasn't yet been on it 😅 I assume the plan is to beeline to Hyperia anyway?
Also I have decided to go to...
I've got a potentially controversial one as I suspect people might not want to admit this - this is a very priviledged hobby.
By that I mean you need to have enough disposable income to travel a lot to go on new coasters unless you want to do the same few parks all your life. You need to have...
I decided I might go to Drayton Manor soon, except it's more expensive this month (I think it's due to some Viking event I don't care about) than next month and the day I wanted to go, Sunday the 15th, it's not even open for some unexplained reason. I was hoping to squeeze it in before the Live...
The only one I like that much is Icon despite having been on it probably the least of them all. Wild Mouse was pretty good and Revolution is pretty nice too. Everything else is pretty rough though I did use to enjoy Grand National.
That looks insanely fast, if it's really that well paced it will be rather solid. It's overly roll heavy though, could have done with a loop or something for variety!
Drayton Manor is my closest, probably about a half hour away from me driving. I did use to live a bit closer growing up though. I've also got Alton Towers about an hour away, mostly on winding roads.
I've done both parks a lot - Drayton was a yearly or more occurence as a teenager, but I went...
I feel like a lot of parks kind of don't bother with the medium tier looper anymore. Klondike at Drayton Manor, while a crappy Pinfari, was a perfect stepping stone to Shockwave back in the day. Tusenfryd has a good example in Loopen as well, just a loop and a corkscrew in a very short and not...
Plus the rides might not even open on time or at all! On my visit in April I had to do a serious amount of backtracking and it really ate into my day because Nemesis Reborn and Wicker Man didn't open until well after 11. And yes, the park does look very run down, it was depressing. It feels like...
Definitely Icon at Blackpool. I was able to ride it once in the back and really liked it, but I was out of practice and became very rough later on, which meant cutting the day short before I had chance to do any rerides.
I did like Ukko at Linnanmaki which was unexpected, but with a chest...
Me as well - I'm holding off until September as well when teething issues should be resolved and it might be less insanely busy.
It's a pretty UK heavy forum compared to most sites, which makes a change from the rest of the internet being so American dominated.
