    Favorite Steam Train Ride

You are most fortunate to be in Britain. Per extensive research, I have determined that Great Britain and England especially is the world's steam train mecca. What appears to be the most notable operation on the island are the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, which are based in...

Their two locomotives are the oldest used on an amusement park railroad. Both were built in 1881.

    Stagnant UK Coaster Situation

On a spreadsheet I maintain on the topic, England (not UK) has the largest relevant roller coaster collection out of all subnational entities (states, provinces, oblasts, etc.) on Earth. #2 is California, BTW. So, I'd say England has not made a lot of big coasters in non-Merlin parks in a...

    Most Innovative Roller Coaster Ever?

I think the coaster that's open now with the strangest combination of elements would have to be Veil of Dark in Sega Joypolis in Japan. Play a video game during the ride, launches, spins, inverts, one-of-a-kind, etc. Another really strange one would be Tyrolean Tub Twist at Joyland in Great...

    Favorite Steam Train Ride

What's your favorite amusement park choo-choo? It doesn't have to be steam-powered, or even be in park, as train rides can be fun wherever they are located.

Is there a rhyme and a reason?

Dollywood is jolly good. Clark's Trading Post is better than most. Knott's Berry Farm will do you no harm.

A dull ride or a painful ride?

A dull ride can be offset if it has amazing views.

Are racing coasters 1 or 2 creds?

I personally count twin coasters as two. They are objectively two different rides and sometimes they are not identical. Battlestar Galactica in USS is a prime example. Also, Steeplechase in BPB would count as three.

Which annual passes do you have/have you had?

All Central Florida parks. For a brief period from 2011 to 2012, right before my wife and I had our first kid, we had passes to Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Silver Springs. We've also had Legoland passes.

What is the best way to market a new ride?

Easiest way to market a new ride: get licenses for well-known movies, characters, etc. and incorporate them into the ride and/or name the ride after them. Batman: the Ride, Harry Potter & the Forbidden Journey, etc. The thing about those is that they have the ability to reach people who are...

    Attraction Rankings

Before adding the weather score, I was planning on making "days open per year" one of the criteria, but that quickly became problematic as not all parks provide that information, or at least not thoroughly. For instance, with Six Flags Magic Mountain, they only list their calendar dates six...

    Attraction Rankings

Roller Coaster data has six criteria: Original opening date (even if it has been moved to a different park). Scores increase the older or newer it is, and decrease as it gets closer to the average age. Track height (taller the better) Track length (longer the better) Max. Speed (higher the...

    Attraction Rankings

Here is an attempt I've made to grade locations with roller coasters, steam railroads, and classic carousels using objective data sets to see which places are the best. Typical weather conditions are also taken into account. There are 592 locations in the USA and Canada on the list. I'd add...

    Roughest/Worst coaster you've ridden?

Using a combination of data sets based on the roller coaster's age and maximum speed, I have determined that the roughest roller coaster in the world is the Coney Island Cyclone in Brooklyn, New York. When one of the roller coaster's turns has a popular nickname like "Coney Island Grand Slam,"...

Sega Opens New Joypolis in Qingdao

Re: Sega Open I am currently trying to research this same info, but have not been successful. The only thing I could think of is that the two roller coasters at the other SEGA arcade parks are built by Gerstlauer. This new one could be built by Gerstlauer, as well. They do not list it on...
