Best coaster per unit length; what coaster utilises its length most effectively?

Hi guys. Frequently, people’s favourite coasters on here are quite long rides. My own favourite coaster is Shambhala, a coaster with over 5,000ft of track, and other common favourites like Steel Vengeance and VelociCoaster are also long rides. But with these being long rides, the length arguably contributes to them being able to be rated so highly and provide so many thrills, and there might be a bit of “padding”, for lack of a better term, in there. With this in mind, as well as many other discussions about short coasters as of late (Hyperia comes to mind…), I’d be intrigued to know; what do people think is the best coaster per unit length? What ride do people feel utilises its track length or duration most effectively?

Personally, I’d nominate a couple of examples.

Firstly, I’d honestly struggle to look past Hyperia at Thorpe Park for this topic. The ride may only be around 30 seconds long, but I’d struggle to think of a more jam packed 30 seconds of roller coaster, with a wide variety of sensations on offer! That first drop is sublime, the Immelmann provides wonderful sustained ejector coming out of it, the outerbank is so wonderful and different, the zero-g stall and final two elements provide some really nice forces, and trim brake aside, I don’t think the ride has a single inch of wasted track!

The second ride I’d nominate isn’t cripplingly short as such, but certainly isn’t insanely long by any stretch, and that’s Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa. The ride is not the longest in the world, but it does so much with the duration it has! There’s so much airtime, with that first drop in particular being insane, there are so many other weird and wonderful negative g sensations on offer like the wave turn and the death roll, and the sense of speed throughout is just absurd! Not an inch of that track is wasted or redundant, in my view; every single element offers something!

But I’d be keen to know; what coaster do you feel utilises its length most effectively?

Hyperia would be there but that non-working splashdown loses points for me.

Nemesis definitely has one of the best coasters for its length in my opinion, at least from what I've done. Doesn't last that long, but there's next to no filler, besides one or two turns which were a requirement to navigate the area.

The Big one is the opposite of this, has a massive length but doesn't do much with it. It's not what you've got, it's how you use it!

The Figure 8 Intamin Accelerators are a good candidate for me, especially Superman in Australia.
Wodan also packs a lot into a Short duration.

When it comes to fun per m of track, Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loops would like a word.

Outlaw Run immediately springs to mind. Perhaps it was @Ian's reaction to riding it when he claimed the coaster gets the most use out of every inch of track without dragging on.

Looking at my Top 30, Piraten, Nemesis, Storm Chaser, and surprisingly enough Fonix are all under 3,000 ft in length and all incredible rides. Fonix being just under 3,000 ft and the others being under 2,500 ft, with Nemesis being the shortest.

The thing that all these rides have in common is that no element is wasted. Their ride times (from top of lift to brakes) may be short but they don't feel short as just about every element hits. There are much longer rides with more elements but might only have half the number of highlights that these shorter rides provide.

Top Thrill Dragster (and I imagine TT2 as well) and Stealth are other great examples. But those are ultimately too short for me to keep them high ranked.

Letting the spreadsheet do the talking of course, sort by length and then filtering just the top couple of rating tiers:

Twisted Cyclone
Storm Chaser
Extreme Rusher
Bullet Coaster

All jumped off the page. Interestingly I think the biggest factor holding each of those rides back for me is the length.

And then what appeared one space after the above on my list?

Ride to Happiness

I've never actually thought about relatively short in track length it is, especially for a multi-launch. Shorter than old mate Hyperia too.
Nothing holds Ride to Happiness back for me, therefore I'd say it uses its 3018.4ft most effectively.
