Why do some wooden coasters have steel frames?

Is it cheaper to build, or is it easier to upkeep? Is there another reason? Just wondering why this is becoming more common.

Not the expert on the matter, but maintenance is much easier and cheaper.
This is the reason ZDT's Switchback has steel supports as the owner does the maintenance, larger companies such as Busch probably are looking at cost implications.

It also allows for a smaller footprint, versus having to build out larger support structures with wood.
