Just added to the Joyland books site, construction photos of Clacton Pier's "Steel Stellar".

12 month's ago, there weren't any photos of this ride anywhere online. Now here is a superb "photo story" of the ride being constructed.

For those who don't know, it was a one of a kind coaster. A standard wooden figure 8 toboggan, only the frame was steel.

It's exceptionally ugly, but very interesting (honest).

You can see the images on Joyland books:
http://www.joylandbooks.co.uk/forum/vie ... 1&start=30

Hopefully, you won't have to join to view them.

I love the shot with the engineers "bending" the wood on the pier floor to make the corners

Computers and machinery? They're for girls!!!

^Same reason we cant build a flying turns coaster. We lost the skill when these damn computers were invited!

I love old construction photos. It's pretty sweet to look back at how things used to be.

^ Yeah, although it must have been weird living in a world without color.

Seriously, those are pretty neat. Good find!
