Did CGI kill the movies?

Is CGI killing "good films" or letting better ones be made?

  • Meh, I don't even notice CGI if I'm escaped in a film's story, tension, acting and pacing

It's a natural evolution for filmmaking. It's more expensive, but it's also easier to film and takes less time. A well thought out practical effect, while I prefer them, takes a lot longer to build, prepare, and properly shoot. CGI just represents a lot more control and is ideal for a company like Marvel which is releasing 3+ movies a year.

Sadly, GCI has not had a big impact on the film industry.
