It’s been tradition now for the last 10 years or so for me and my dad to hit Silverstone for the F1 each year, and since it was looking like this was going to be the last, we couldn’t miss it!
I won’t go into too much detail of what happened, else I’ll be here all night typing and uploading photos – all 2200 of them! All of the photos were taken by my dad, and none are edited in any way.
I'll refer to the corner's by their name. If you're not familiar with Silverstone's track, here's a layout with the name of each corner.
So at silly O’Clock in the morning on Friday 21st we find ourselves one of the first people at Silverstone.
Safety car's check out the track and set the pace ready for the F1 cars to come out for the first practise.
Lewis doing his stuff around Club corner. If you didn't know, i'm a McLaren fan so this report is probably going to be McLaren biased.
The crowd was a reasonable size for a Friday morning, and there were still people pouring into the circuit at this time.
One for Neal to enjoy.
Alonso and Barichello coming around the Vale and entering Club corner. This is our favourite place to watch the race, since you can see loads of the circuit from Stowe corner all the way to Abbey, and it's only one of the prime overtaking corners.
Later on after the F1 it was time for the GP2 practise, which we moved around the circuit a bit and watched from Stowe corner. Looking up Hangar straight with the GP2 car's coming down.
We moved around a bit further and watched the Formula BMW qualifying from the Maggots and Becketts complex but didn't get many pictures. Everyone always goes on about how this is the most dramatic place to watch the race due to the stupidly high speed corners, but me and my dad have always found that the grandstand and banking are too far away from the track to get the full effect.
Carrying on around the circuit to watch the afternoon F1 practise from Copse, where we could also see the cars perform a practise start from the pit lane.
Most of the rest of the afternoon was spent checking out the F1 village, where they have all the team display stands and such. McLaren had their usual display with their 2009 MP4-24 car. Dunno why it had full wet tyres on though. :?
Sexy...
Final track activity was the Porsche Supercup qualifying.
So that concludes Friday. Saturday and Sunday to come!
