BRANSON, Mo. (KOLR) - Plans are in the works for a new outdoor amusement park in Branson.

The development is called Mountain Adventure Resort, and will be located along Highway 165 in what used to be known as “Butcher Hollow.”

"They're really trying to embrace the extreme topography and all the wonderful vegetation on the property," says Joel Hornickel, Branson Planning and Development director. “A couple of the components are a zip coaster, zip lines, a ropes course, and then a thing called a mountain coaster."

Hornickel says the 80-acre plot has been empty for years due to the 400-foot elevation change.

However, he believes the landscape will be perfect for the coming attractions.

"A zip coaster is very similar to a zip line except it's not a straight line, like you see in a lot of the current properties. It's more of a circuitous route that can take curves and again take advantage of the property," Hornickel adds.

Mountain Adventure Resort isn’t the only project hoping to capture the adventure market in the coming seasons.

Work is already underway on “Fritz's Adventure” on Highway 76, and plans are in the works for a 225-foot tower called “Big Foot,” just down the road.

"It goes great with our outdoors,” he continues, ”the beautiful location Branson is located in, within the Ozarks.”

Mountain Adventure Resort will also have the opportunity to capture those visitors that may be venturing from the strip to Table Rock Lake.

Hornickel says the project will grow with demand, and could one day feature cabins for those who want to stay for an extended period.

"They'll start out in the first season with one or two of the rides. We would expect in three to five years to see quite the offering on the property," he says.

Plans for the project have already passed a first reading by the Branson Board of Aldermen, and will be heard a second time next week.

Hornickel says it’s possible that the first rides could open in the Summer of 2016.

Possible creds bolded. It appears that the first permanent Cloud Coaster might find a home here, as well as an Alpine Coaster, which is something the area doesn't have. The site map does look like it'll be something along the lines of a campground-amusement park hybrid, as cabins are in the works. I do think it's quite a stretch to get rides up and running in 6 months, though. I have some doubts for this, but I can still see it open.

I should also note that this is NOT a Herschend Property. This is another, independent company.

Your thoughts? Good idea? Will this get crushed by SDC? Will it become another Celebration City? Stay tuned to find out, right after a word from our sponsors.

Re: New park for Branson(?)

Didn't think this needed a new topic, as this one had no replies.

Anyways, the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel that was removed will find a new home in Branson(Not SDC, a company by the name of "Track Family Fun Parks" bought it):

BRANSON, Mo.– The old Ferris wheel at Navy Pier is getting a new home.

Come summer it will be the newest attraction at an amusement park in Branson, Missouri.

The iconic 15-story Ferris wheel became a landmark in Chicago, attracting thousands of visitors over the years.

The “Track Family Fun Parks” in Branson paid $2.5 million for it.

As for Chicago’s new Ferris wheel, it’s expected to be up and running at Navy Pier by summer.

Also changed the topic title for a broader collection.
